I am sitting in my new shack as I type ;D I have my FT-847, FT-101ZD and Console II in here at the moment, awaiting the SSB CRR later on this evening. I now see it will take a while for me to get the new shack organized as I want it, but it is officially "on the air"

Got it back together tonight...needs a couple of new crystals for Channel 1 and 2, but I learned of a possible modification to fix that tonight from Sandbagger...might have to give it a try....otherwise "It's alive!!" and LOUD! ;D (and pretty too)

Geez, it looks brand new! I would imagine having a decent working classic is a good feeling enough but from most of the photos I've seen here, most of the radios look new. So that must add to to the fun & excitement of owning a classic radio. "It not only works great, but looks great as well!"

From your discription it sounds like you have a Browning Eagle R27/S23. Is the transmitter smaller then the receiver, and AM mode only with no sideband?
Does your radio look like this

Well it sounds like everyone was telling about their stations early on this "Classic Radio" board so I'll just through mine out there too. I've been running Browning radios since 1995. I have three Mark III's, one which came from the original owner in the original boxes. I have two Mark IV's, one with the original boxes and I got it at an auction for $75.00. A Demco Super Satelitte with the speaker/modulator and original foot switch and D104. I have over 100 D-104 microphones ranging from five Golden Eagles, one Diamond Eagle, over twenty five are Silver Eagles and then the others are misc. I have two Mitro 300-A models, a Maco 200, Maco 300 and 500 Orange faces, a Palomar 300-A Model, Phantom 12 tuber, a 4-1000 home brew, President Madison, Dwight D, and Washington, Tram D201, Browning Sabre which I bought a few years ago NOS. It was still sealed in the plastic bag! A number of Tram D60 mobiles, one of those was NOS too! I am using the 776 non amplified (brown stripe) on one of the Mrk III's and the IV's are using the amplified ones (orange stripe). Ihave all this set up on two radio consoles in my communications room. I'll post a pic on here in a few days. Let you guys see how this is all set up. This all runs thru a Maco V5/8 antenna about 72 feet right now. I'm preping for a set of stack Moonraker IV's about 50 feet this summer. Later, Dr. Rigamortis - South East Missouri. Wow, nice collection there. Most of us can appreciate fine radios like those. I'm thankful just to have one Browning MKIII and a fairly decent D201. But any of those radios harken back to a much better time for radio. You'll have to fire one of your classics up and join us for Classic Radio roundup. If the skip's rolling, you might be able to do it. A few members have already......

The browning 776 brown stripe is modulated. The only difference and I mean only-is the brown stripe has only (1) switch inside the base. It was made for the MarkIII. The orange stripe was made for the IV series and has (2) switches in the base. when keying the mic the 5 volt supply from the radio was being tapped into to power the mic from pin 4 of the connector. The brown stripe was also powered off the radio from the keying circuit.

I recently received my MK III transmitter back from fixer. He did a great job. Lots of big audio now and the ping never sounded better. I had a issue w/ the ping cap. But Alan set me straight. Made a contact in Virgina a few days ago who said my eagle was doing the job. Not bad for a 3 watt dead key and 10 watt swing and a siro ground plane. It goes to show you what a good antenna, clean loud modulation and a Classic MK III can do without a box in line. ;D

OK, I recently had my Dads old Brownings (he bought them brand new in the early sixties)rebuilt by Alan at Tubes plus.com and they are perfect WOW. The radios are the 23s/9 Transmitter (the ones with the small channel selector numbers), And the R-2700A receiver. I use them everyday and get alot of big radio comments. and of course the "yes they are supposed to make that noise when I key it up". The best part is I only live about an hour away from Alan so I was able to just drive them to him. Now thats what I call lucky. How many places in the whole country can you get these good 'ol radios worked on by experts.

I wish i was that lucky. It cost a few bucks to send my Eagles to Alan. But it was worth every penny. Thanks Alan. PS, the other day i am on ebay looking at a very nice pair (MK III) not breasts, and i see that Alan was the guy who had repaired/updated them for this seller. Someone will get a very nice MK III thanks to Alan. 73

Just picked up a NEAR MINT(BEAUTIFUL)BROWNING GOLDEN EAGLE MKIII with a 776 microphone YESTERDAY for just $75.It works 100% after I instaled a light bulb in the transmiter channel selector & a 2 amp fuse in the receiver! }:>) Has the ORIGINAL BROWNING tubes in it & is VERY LOUD.She looks GREAT sitting next to my TRAM D-201(Hand wired). The seller of the EAGLE said the receiver did NOT work but she does & GREAT at that. Also came with a COPY of the manual & service manual.I think I got a PRETTY GOOD DEAL. ;D
