I would think that you could tie the vfo into the transmit somehow but you'll probably have to put another crystal on it to make it jump up another 23 channels. I'm not sure of the process but I think it's pretty involved. I don't know what frequency crystal you should use either. There are some great techs on this forum that should see your post and be able to help you out.

For the most part it cannot be done EASYLY. You would wind up basicaly butchering the radio. If your Messenger II is any where near mint , restore it and leave it alone. Was a great old radio in it's day, and still is capable of putting a respectable signal on the air. There were external "ROCK GARDENS" made to add-on to them to give them 23 channel xmit , and I have seen a few that the rock garden was installed internaly but finding one of those nowadays would be blind dumb luck .

So I fgound out that i don't need the tube after all, someone built a solid state rectifier onto the underside of the socket.
this radio had the mic removed and I am putting a 4 pin connector on a lead so I can plug in any cobra 4 pin. also I have no RX any leads as to what I should check out to bring the RX back.. Eli..

I have RX but really week. With the volume all the way up I have to put my ear to the speaker and I barely hear anything. Also on TX I have no audio, but the DK is 7-8 watts..

It may need an alignment...
Also, you can pull out the tubes a couple time and put them back in.. this will help to scrap some corrosion off the tube sockets...

That sounds suspiciously like an audio amp problem. There are a bunch of things in an old tube rig that could cause the problem you have. The simplest would be a bad audio tube. But there could also be an open or nearly so power resistor, or one of the coupling caps. Check the voltages on each stage to make sure stuff is correct.
