Well, would you believe the luck...

A ham radio buddy was up at a big antiques thing this past weekend in Canton, TX.. stumbled across a guy selling a bunch of old HAM books... and a EF Johnson Whiteface...

He wanted $45... my buddy told him he had a friend the MIGHT give him $10 for it.. so the guy sold it for $10....

So he picked it up, think I would want it...

I got it from him on the way home from work yesterday...

It has been slightly modified:
-SO-259 replacing the RCA Antenna Jack
-Mic jack (the big 4 pin one) mounted into the front face
-Rectifier tube replaced with diodes
-The case cover has more holes in it than a Blackface cover does

But it has 5 channels worth of crystals, a Johnson hand mic (not the Banana one), and the power cord...

The Crystal Channels Are:
9 T/R
10 T/R
11 T/R
13 T/R
23 R, 15 T (interesting combo)

So with a little propagation luck, and if teh crystals are still good, I might be able to put my Audio Modified Blackface on the RoundUp!

well, bad news..

my channel 13 receive and 9 transmit crystals are dead...

that sucks, not so much channel 9, but 13.....

not good for me to get for me to get on the Roundup...

I've had some luck reviving "dead" crystals. Applying heat from a soldering iron to the pins of the crystal for a short time can sometimes shock it back into operation. Just be careful not to overdo it with the heat.

No luck...

and Jan Crystals is now charging $22 per crystal for the Whiteface/Blackface
