I'm just curious. Is anyone else here a beggar magnet? Over the past few years I seem to have gained some magical power to attract beggars like flies. I don't walk around wearing fancy jewelry. As a matter of fact since my employer made me carry a cell phone with me I don't even wear a watch anymore. I don't consider a Toyota Corolla an expensive car, and I don't wear expensive clothes.
For the third time in a year someone came up begging for gas money, and on three different occasions this year someone else gave me some sap story about needing money in general. Is it just me, or are you guys running it to it as well? Maybe I should put a big sign around my neck that says; "I don't go to work everyday to pay for you!"
One of them approached me inside a Wal-Mart. Two of them were in the parking lot at another Wal-Mart. One of them was in the parking lot at Kentucky Fried Chicken. One of them walked up to me while I was standing in line at Taco Bell, and one approached me in the parking lot at a filling station.

I would suggest that your affinity for attracting beggars has more to do with the places you chose to visit, than any personal quality you may have. Try visiting upscale stores (Just don't wear sweatpants), 5 star restaurants, and high priced gas stations. Or better yet, an employment office or military recruiter. I doubt you'll find many beggars there...... ;D

This is a growing trend and a sign of the times. With gas and food prices going up the way they are you are going to see more of this. When my wife and daughter went to the beach on vacation last month they had the same thing happen to them on the boardwalk. Never in all there prior years of going there did we ever have this problem. I don't leave the house much anymore due to my health except to go to the doctors or if I really need something and I need to go to the store when my wife is at work, I have had this happen to me a few times. Most times it seems like young guys who look pretty darn healthy to work and earn a dollar. It seems the mind set of today is the world owes them a living. Before my health went south I worked two and three jobs at times to provide. Now of days it seems you can't even get some of them to even work a parttime job

Before my health went south I worked two and three jobs at times to provide. Now of days it seems you can't even get some of them to even work a parttime job When I moved to Phoenix, AZ the first time back in 1991 a recession kicked in. By 1992 my sales commissions were none. I wound up working three jobs to try to make ends meet. Before I found my "nitch" in life there were times that all I had to eat was a loaf of bread and a jar of peanut butter. I had an empty apartment with almost no furniture, and I slept on the floor. Even then I did not beg, and I did not father children I could not afford. I have an easy high end good paying computer job now, but in my 20s I had jobs where I stood in a puddle of water that was my own sweat. I remember seeing an interesting quote about the United States, and it goes like this; "Only in the United States are poor people fat". The guy that was begging from me yesterday had a belly on him, and one of the other guys that begged for gas money had a brand new Ford F-150.

I used to be a babe magnet, until I got married. Har, har... Seriously though, I don't really get out enough anywhere to find out about a beggar magnet. We've got lots of malls around here, and lots of traffic leading to them so I don't even bother. Though I do seem to attract certain people who will just come up to me and start talking, about anything. I could be anywhere, when out, and someone will just start yapping. So maybe they are leading up to the begging and I leave before the question comes up? I have no idea....

I hope you know this is a SCAM! There was a local story about a fellow that stood out on an exit ramp. "Help me. Need Work. Am Hungry. God Bless". Come to find out this person had 4 kids at home, a 3 year old pickup truck and (get this!) EARNED over $35,000 a YEAR begging!!!! I-do-not-give-them-one-thin-dime!!!! These people are as healthy as I am, able to work as I am (I am retired, but I work part-time to make ends meet). And the paper is STILL full of ads for employment. Let 'em work, or let 'em STARVE!!!!!!! 73 rover

Scammers play off the good intentions of many charitable people and organizations, and divert the help from the folks who truly need it. Scammers like this are the lowest form of life.
