So can I assume they are a better version?? Better meaning tougher and maybe longer lasting?

Not really. Here is a link giving some info on the tube. I've seen the metal encased tubes work better in some radios and glass better in others. My experience using them in a Tram radio is that they did not do as well as their glass counterparts. Of course your experience may vary. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/6L6BC

Could you call these metal glass tubes Interesting that 6l6/6l6gc tubes are used in a Tram. Generally when I have seen those tubes they were being used in the final audio output section of a guitar amplifier. I think some of the Marshall guitar amps used then, and I know the early 1980s Peavey VTX Classic guitar amps used two of them with a rated output of 65 watts RMS.

I did catch me by surprise when I saw them as well. But the radio that had them is a mess. It has serious grounding issues, if the top lid touches anything metal, for example the D104, there is a ton of static and it sounds kinda scary..

I didn't know that 6L6 tubes could be used as RF outputs as well as audio until I saw them in the Trams. I believe that they were used in the Fender Twin Reverb amps and others too.
