I read the post on the CRR section and see that Sandbagger may be looking for a Demco Super Sattelit. I too wouldn't mind having one but I haven't seen one since the 1960's. Do they have sideband capabilities? My friend had one and it was constantly breaking down, and I've heard this from other Demco owners. I imagine that finding one in good shape would be a problem and If one could be found, it probably would be a good idea to replace the electrolytic capacitors at least. Since the Demco's have seperate recievers and transmitters, adding frequencies for out of band would probably be about the same as the Brownings.. Does any one have information on the sideband and breakdown questions? I have so much radio expense now that it wil take me awhile to locate a good one and pay for it. DX on!

Tombstone I'm not choosey, I'll be happy with either the standard Satellite, or the Super. But they do tend to fetch a fairly high price in good condition, so I'm patiently waiting for that diamond in the rough to drop on my doorstep.

Yes, it would be nice to find that one out in bushes. Everything I have seen for sale has either been parts radios. Or way to high of a price. I remember a local who had one. He had to crank up the modulator past 100%. So of course he flat topped. Couldn't understand why he was getting bad reports. Gotta love CB opps.. 73's

It seems like the face on Demcos is always pitted/rusty. I'm anal when it comes to cosmetics if I'm gonna throw money at it.

Sounds like the clear coat starts to come off with cleaning over time. Or Demco didn't do a good prep before finishing the face plate. Yes, I agree V8. If I am going to buy one, it better be in nice shape. 73

You are going to want the later Satelite Deluxe or the Super Satelite. The very early Satelite's have very little selectivity. Not good for today's conditions when the skip is in. A PAL VFO works great for adding the 40 channels on both transmit and receive. I have been using a set of Deluxes with a PAL VFO for a couple of years now with good results.

You certainly have great results with your Demco per the way it sounded the evening awhile back when we talked briefly. I'm glad that you set the record straight about the Deluxe and Super models being more reliable. That explains the rumors of them having break down problems because the operators that told me that were running the straight Satellit models. I don't want you to think that I'm down grading the Demcos, I think that the Deluxe and Super models look way cool and sound great when someone knows how to set them up properly, same as the Brownings. I'll eventually pick up one of the models that you recommend but I'm Browning poor now. I just wish that when we made contact that I would have been running my wacked out series II, R27, S23, instead of the Cobra 2000. Demco on!

A few years ago, I talked to Fixr on 26.915, & his Demco Deluxe was loud & proud!

Do the Demco's have any better attributes than a Browning or Tram? That set is gorgeous and I would be willing to spend some money on it. I just would like to know a little more like what tubes are used in the mod and final...etc, etc.

I just would like to know a little more like what tubes are used in the mod and final...etc, etc. I guess it just boils down to a matter of personal preference. Every Demco I've ever heard sounded great, with very warm tube-quality audio. Now are the receiver specs as good as a Browning or Tram? Probably not, but from a vintage radio collector's standpoint, it's a good choice. (But *I* wouldn't pay $480 for one).

They use 6BQ5's for the final output and modulator. Output is comparable to a Browning MKIII or MKIV. The Deluxe has the Load and Plate tuning caps on the front panel. Easy to match the transmitter to an amp or different antennas.

Railroader, you have a wonderful collection of vintage gear, especially the Sonar equipment. Could you please downsize your pictures just a bit. I have to scroll to be able to see them and never can in their entirety.
Thanks, Dennis

In the near future their will be loads of demco radios and parts up for auction on ebay. Watch for big D's Cb's, he passed away about 2 months ago and his kids are ebaying off his huge collection of cb radios.... he actually bought the remaining stock from the demco business a number of years ago and he had radios from all stages of the asssembly process including complete radios and parts. most of the radios (no demcos yet)that have already been posted for auction have very high reserve prices from what i understand and i believe will not sell, so my guess is they will be relisted with lower reserves.

I have been running my Demco Super Satelite for a month now, I love the thing. It has rich and warm audio on both TX and RX. the locals love it. I love it. The sensitivity and selectivity in the RX are first rate for a radio of the era. <60Db @ 10kc. Hears down to about .1Uv @10db s/n on my signal generator. Alas no SSB, but we mostly us AM for CRR anyway. I have owned Browning MK III and IV's, I like the Demco better than the Brownings now after running a Demco Super Satelite.

I always wanted one, but could never find one that worked good and looked good! I seen one of these down at Otto's Communications in Thorndale many years ago, the radio is a beauty!
