Great turn out for CRR last night. Thanks for the Gate. First half I was on the venerable Cobra 2K with the +2 mic combo. Later, I topped it off with a "Craig's List Special" Galaxy DX66V that I picked up earlier in the day for $25 from a retired OTR driver in Allentown. Item was listed as "CB RADIO" with no real description. Saw what the radio in the picture was and made the call. Took a bit of cleaning to get the coffee stains off as it must have been installed on the top of the dash. Appears to be an early version that's unmolested inside. It even came with a bonus Archer mag mount antenna (the good one). Sparky, out.

Classic Radio Round Up New Years Day edition. Wow what a fun night of radio with some unusual sporadic "E" propagation short skip to New York state and Connecticut as well as Mass. Thanks to all the check-ins that make the Round Up what it is. Spitfire 441

Great CRR last night with a rare NY skip twist. I ran a couple of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. LTD tube radios. The first was a 23 channel KRIS 23+ that had extra channels added. For the second half it's newer tube hybrid 40 channel cousin, a Gemtronics GTX-5000. Both still had all the original Matsushita tubes in them.

Mostly I had to listen to some annoying person with a roger beep and an echo box in New York. Then some french speaking Canadians came in. I got through to Dave and Sparky for a few seconds and then it was back to New York and Canada. Night Ranger

We almost never hear New York, Connecticut, or Massachusetts (too far for direct, too close for typical "E" skip). I heard nothing to the south in the beginning. By the end of the Roundup, it looked like the short skip North had faded out, but there was something starting up somewhere else but stations were generally too weak to copy.

In honor of Pete's anniversary absence from CRR, I took on the task of making this week's video gates. At nearly 800 MB per, it takes a while to upload. Part II:

I was out of town in Pittsburgh but was able to listen into CRR on both SPEW radio streams.
So cool, I just switched back and forth depending on which one received better at the time or if I was trying to hear Doc Hammer on the net broadcast feed. Thanks.

This weeks 'Gate includes my Regency Imperial II, CR123B, an attempt to use my Metrotek Mustang II (dead mic battery), and a Cobra 19DX II. There is also tech talk on the USL Contact 23 (CB 7000) and a little air time with it.

I personally had a grand old time last night on CRR. That Cobra 19 sounded surprisingly good. Yours is a little bit different than mine. Mine has a 5 pin mic connector and brushed aluminum front panel. They made so many different iterations of the Cobra 19, I don't know if there are any major differences circuit-wise. I'll have to dig mine up from the junk box and breath a little life back into it............

Night Ranger I worked on one of those back in the mid 70's. The radio had no power out. I could not figure out (then) what was wrong. I tested the final and driver with my tester and they both tested good. Turns out the problem WAS a bad final. It was the first time (and not the last) where I found a transistor that can actually not test bad, but still is.

Alrighty, made it on CRR with an Optima Yellow Top battery powering my ol' RCI6300F Turbo. Voltage held above 12 VDC the entire show and then some. The radio had great receive audio and swung from 20-100 watts. Even though it was a little dim in the shack, it was nice to know we could still get out on the base even without shore power due to the ice storm. Hope everyone's antennas fared well. I pulled down the Comet 250 BX HF antenna that was on a push up pole in a tree that was leaning so it didn't get damaged. The 10-11 meter Sirio 2016 antenna didn't even flinch with a 1/2" of ice on it. Word...

No video-gate(s) from 1/29? Sure! Thanks for posting the 1/29 Gate Spitfire. I seem to recall I was running a Montgomery Wards 702 Base Station on 1/29. Cool to hear additional locals checking in on 2/5 as well!

Snowmageddon edition of CRR on 2/12 had me running a Philippines made Cobra 25 LTD. I had some visitors over and was listening for the most part. Later I was able to get on "CRR After Hours" for a while. There were quite a few operators still in there since most of us did not have work the next morning due to the pending snow storm related closures. We currently have 12-14" of snow since last night

AND, get this, they're calling for ANOTHER storm on Saturday! Yea, that's right. Snowmageddon continues...... Film at 11.
