Decent turnout for the SNUBWAP last night as we talked til near midnight. I sneaked on a 1st version RCI 2970 with a Turner SSB+2 mic that I usually run on most radios. Once adjusted, this radio seemed pretty stable and only had to adjust it once after about an hour of gab time. I still don't like how all the knobs are jammed in there on the faceplate on these 2950 based rigs. It's difficult to know which knobs are which in which frustration is sustained It's definitely fun to have a few 10 meter rigs to swap. I still need a mic that I can try out an HTX100. Wonder if that crosses with any other 8 pin radios like Kenwood or Yaesu? [glow=red,2,300]Sunday Night Useless Banter With A Purpose[/glow]

That was the purpose of SNUBWAP in the first place. USE 10 meters once a week for certain. ;D

I only run 60-100 watts on SSB for now, but others may run more. One of these days I'll get a 1500 watt SSB set up going Last week's SNUBWAP had a great turnout with over a dozen check-ins. Keep trying on Sunday nights from 8-10 PM EST on 28.4120 MHz USB where we're Snubin' and Wapin'

I've worked a lot of DX on that rig, with good signal reports, when I had a decent antenna. I'll definitely check in if I can. I am in the process of building up a pair of 811A's for 10-80 Mtrs, so eventually you guys should here something out of me. 73, Randy AB5NI

Well, it looks like they have a big contest running on 10 Mtrs. Band is all full up. Should the band still be open when u guys get on 28.412 tonight, I'm wondering if you'll even be able to here me with all the interference from the contest? Probably not. I did make a radial system. Found an old stereo with a square-steel bottom, unscrewed it, and hung 4 radials off the thing. If I hear you guys, I'm going to put some newspaper on my car's roof, put the plate and radials on it, and then put my mag-mount antenna on the center of the plate. Hope that works . (I used to have this same setup up on a flat portion of the 2nd floor roof. Worked rather well, considering the expense and compromise.) UPDATE: Looks like the contest is over (Thank God!); however, I'm listening to 28.412 and don't hear anything out of you guys in the Northeast US. I am hearing some W6's via grayline, but that's about it. 73, Randy AB5NI

The contest must have ended and the band closed up after that as I heard nothing but the locals. OTOH my beam is pointed ESE and that's generally not the direction most of the later day skip comes from.

Heard a lot of dying remnants of greyline DX when it started, plus or minus 28.412, so I hung out a bit to see if you guys would pop up above the noise floor, but alas, no go. I'm sure I'll hear u guys eventually, and if not, then there is always the videogates to look forward to seeing. Today, I'll be making the J-Poles. Going to put up just one for awhile to see how it plays. Going to use a spreadsheet and see if I can plot my pattern for a few weeks. Maybe I'll hear u guys on that antenna next SNUBWAP. 73, Randy AB5NI

Yeah I double checked the frequency and at the right time. I must really be in a hole where I am at for sure.

Yeah I double checked the frequency and at the right time. I must really be in a hole where I am at for sure. Normally, I would recommend listening via Spew Radio, but the radio it's connected to is strictly a 23 channel CB, so Spew is off the air during the SNUBWAP.

Yeah I listen to Spew Radio off and on during the week. And Wednesday night for Classic Radio Roundup for sure. And what I miss is caught on Pete's video gates! Have young kids so sometimes hard to get the whole roundup in one sitting.

Did not know about the get together on 28.412 on Sunday nights. Will be listening this Sunday for sure around 8 PM. Lots of check ins tonight on the CRR, so good to hear and a lot of great sounding stations. Hope everyone has a good week, look forward to catching some of you on 10m Sunday. 73's Capt Barry

SNUBWAP (or is is SNUBLAP?) was interesting last night (5/17). Started off rather typically, but then about halfway in, it appeared that some E-layer skip came in there and we managed to work a few stations in different parts of the country, including Night Ranger. Things may be interesting for the next few weeks as the summer E-cycle seems to be starting off.

Last night, no check-ins for the SNUBWAP. Maybe the local lightning storms scared everyone off.

Last night, no check-ins for the SNUBWAP. Maybe the local lightning storms scared everyone off. I was late coming in from a softball tournament (and the post tournament dinner). I got home, showered, and went to bed.

Sounds like the tournament went well. There was a line of storms approaching from the west so I figured most of the Western operators said "heck with this" I may have mentioned this before. About a week ago, local Boyertown operator Hawkeye blew out his radio when he and I were talking during an approaching storm after a strike hit nearby. We were conversing about nearby strikes and the damage they can cause when it happened go figure. You know, that's alright if no one showed. There was no one on 28.4120 USB the night before either when I mistakenly thought it was Sunday night (when it was actually Saturday) DUH... You would have'd laughed if you heard me ghost talking trying out different desk mics on the Kenwood TS-430 and SNUB'n and WAP'n for 20 minutes Haha, that's what happens when you have too many days off in a row.

I overheard one of the PAARC operators speaking to him about helping him set up his digital radio and tweaking the filters on it yesterday. Some of the PAARC operators were boasting about how many folks they had in one of the digital "Node Rooms" the other night. They're all exited about it Told ya they were board with analogue. Yea, it's a new toy and it's a bit different from the usual. It'll be a big thing until the shortcomings of digital transmissions, override the "cool-wow!" factor. Sometimes simpler is better......

Good turn out for the SNUBWAP last night that went past the 10pm window. We missed a few key operators though...
Conversations centered on some of the new SDR based HF radios available like the Icom 7300, adding panadaptors to older HF radios and more discussion on C4FM digital methods.

Snubbin' and Wappin' last Sunday (4/24). Decent turnout and the conversation was lively, and maybe even a bit risque at times for the traditional stuffed shirt stereotypical ham.......

After a two week hiatus, folks returned to the SNUBWAP. Probably had around 10 locals and one DX check in (Doug, from Illinois) To be fair, Wayne said he tried the two previous weeks and I listened in a couple of times but heard no-one. I was exercising my recently repaired RCI-2970N2 matched to the Turner +2 with good reports. So far so good with about 6 hours of AM and SSB mixed. The batch of MOSFETS are holding up with no oscillation and normal heat generated. Since I'm long winded, this radio has always needed supplemental cooling even though it has two small computer fans inside

With softball every weekend, by the time I get home, showered, and fed, I end up missing the start of the show, and I usually end up going to bed because I'm wiped out. Depending on whether we make it to the Sunday elimination games, I MIGHT make it this weekend....... or not.

Well, I made 7/17's SNUBWAP and it was basically dead (Crickets were chirping at +30 over). I talked with operator Ron for a little while but after about an hour, I turned it off and got involved in something else before heading to an early bed....
