When I got back NC, I was told there was some mischief on last weeks CRR like a "Siren" being thrown down so CRR had to move to another frequency? Also was told maybe it was retribution for someone throwing a DK on CH 14 the night before? I wasn't there either night, but don't think it was any of our peeps if that's how it went down. Probably someone sensing tension between the two channels and trying to stir up drama. Thought we were making some headway with our neighbors. Why the heck would someone act like that when all we're doing is just promoting the hobby? Don't they know other folks depend on Spew Radio to listen in. I didn't want to talk about it on the air and sorry for the rant. I know that Spew isn't up all the time, but I would have been disappointed if all I heard was a siren when I wanted to listen in to CRR on Spew Radio when I was out of town. We'll set up a "mobile network" if required next week. Skills, word....

Well, it would seem that my new neighbor, who goes by 0-7-5, had someone put a lockdown radio on channel 14 while he was trying to talk. For whatever reason, he automatically assumed that it was one of us on 13 responsible for it. He thinks that the lockdown was because of bleedover. I had a nice long talk with him about this and I though we came to an understanding. But I heard it in there a night or two later, so he evidently still has it in his mind that the person interfering with him is someone from 13. It really annoys me when someone assumes something without proof. The really sad part about it is that the only person the siren was bothering Wednesday night was me, and not the alleged person responsible for the channel 14 lockdown (who he says is somewhere in Pottstown). Everyone else out your way and beyond wasn't getting more than an S2 or S3 signal from it. We ended up moving down to channel 12 just so I could hear people weaker than S8 (Had no problem hearing Skeeter and Spitfire). I really hope this doesn't escalate. It's been nice since the nonsense from channel 21 has pretty much died off. I'm really trying to handle this diplomatically. I can remember a time in my youth when this situation would bring all guns to bear and no one would be talking anywhere. I don't ever want to get to that point again.

It seems that we get about one or two CRR disruptions a year. I'm thankful that there is good participation and most citizens comply without interfearing with communications.

Someone made an interesting observation: "why are all the locals on 3 adjacent channels, while the rest are nearly empty?". I wondered the same thing. CRR has grown in "fame" since we started it in 2008, and everyone knows to look for us on channel 13, and I'd hate to have to move just to get away from bleedover. But it may have to come down to that.

It's amazing how some people refuse to mature. We have a few here too, but most people avoid them and they usually stay to themselves unless they've been 'partying'. Then they'll travel the dial looking to cause problems.

But it may have to come down to that. Well just do what I did with my Midland 13-853. Drop in a crystal at the same frequency as the IF frequency in place of one of the coupling capacitors in the receiver first IF chain, and then re-tune the IF transformers on either side. It noticeably improved the selectivity on the radio although I did have to bump up the IF gain to compensate for the insertion loss. Just be sure to avoid inserting the crystal between the noise blanker sampling point and the blanking point as the increased selectivity will lengthen the duration of the noise pulse and render the noise blanker ineffective (assuming the radio has a noise blanker). Night Ranger Or, in my case, I just switch to my Hy-Gain 623, which has one of the tightest IF's I've seen, and it reduces much of the scratch. As long as it isn't splatter, which spreads out and invades the desired frequency and there's no way to get rid of the stuff that's in your passband.

Then they'll travel the dial looking to cause problems. Yep, that's the issue around here as well. There are a few malcontent types who have managed to drive everyone away from the old home channel. So now that the channel is basically dead, they now have to spin the dial looking for different people having fun on another channel, just to start trouble with them. I wouldn't be surprised if they are behind this latest flap. Try to incite a channel dispute and then sit back and laugh as the opposing parties point fingers at each other.
