This week I'm going to run the Tram D201a for two nights. It seems to be right on frequency on sideband. Thursday night SSB CRR has mostly a good turnout. Hope to get some new check in's tonight! Classic radio isn't necessary, just glad to have people stop by no matter what you run in your shack! Channel 16 LSB. 7:30-9:00pm

Well, there is nothing from a Comstat 25B, but the volume and mode switch knobs were missing when the radio was given to me, and I replaced them with two knobs from a Lafayette Micro 12. They're a little larger than the originals, but close enough. The S meter and the channel knob are factory stock. The S meter in a Comstat 25B swings from the top.

But it didn't "come from" a Comstat 25B

Well, that may have been the case at some level, but I don't believe that Comstats (which were made by Panasonic) and the solid state rigs (Which were early Cybernets) shared much in the way of parts. But there may have been some effort to "link" radios of a specific era together, even if they were worlds apart in design and manufacture. The Telsat SSB 25 and SSB 50 had the same type of channel knob as the Comstat 25B. But they also had similar knob styles as the Micro 12 and 23. The Telsat 23, 1023, 924, the HE-20T, and the HB-600 had similar styling features. It's also worthy of note that the Comstat 25B was electrically identical to the 25A, but had a major styling overhaul, in much the same way as Tram did with the Titan II versus the IIa. It was a changing world between the utilitarian 1960's radio designs and the homier, woodgrain furniture, or component stereo look of the 70's.

Just want to say thanks to Spitfire 441 for video gating us last night. We have a good size group in there, and even Spitfire and Sparky jumped in there and even I could hear them both!

BBB we were glad to have you in there! And you sounded good, I need to get my beam back up again. That would help me to hear you guys up that way better! I was alittle late coming in myself. As for RF radiation exposure I really don't push the envelope on that front. I would be more afraid of getting cell phone high frequency exposure myself first. But I do understand your concern the family being subjected to RF exposure.

Well it's Thursday and you know what time it is Classic Radio Roundup SSB edition! Hope to hear Spitfire and Sparky and hopefully some new people! Last week we had a nice turnout and a great time hopefully the same tonight or better. It was nice connecting with the CRR group and hearing them on the air without a 10-5 intervention.
Hope to hear you guys fun starts at 7:30pm -till whenever!

Thanks Sandbagger for stopping in the SSB CRR Edition last night. It was good hearing you in there even though I need to goto the pump house myself! Next time my friend I will bring more watts in my backpack! We had a good crew in there last night two weeks in a row that was nice. And some classic radios, I was running a Tram D201A with a two pill 2879's backing me up but not enough to make it up to you. And One Eye Jacks crippled Cobra 2000gtl with a D&A Raider, and Copy cat running a SBE Console II. Sorry didn't hear 441 or Sparky but maybe next week! Also wanted to say Sandbagger that three element yagi rocks you were coming down to my area great.

Scooby Doo and One other guy (who's name escapes me (Old age thing)), were booming up to me. The rest were down in the s3 - s5 area, including the guy in Jersey (who's name I also forget... Jerry?). If I didn't have the local noise level, which was a constant S1, I would have heard you. I could tell you were in there, but just not enough to punch through the hash noise. I was running my Realistic TRC_451, and my foot was planted hard on the gas, with the Heathkit running at about 500 - 600 watts PEP.

Yeah the guys were Buffalo Bob and Duster(Jerry). My Tram wasn't hitting the box hard enough so I didn't have the power there for you to hear me. But I heard you loud and clear! If I would have run the 6900FSC4 that would have done it for sure. But that was a first ever hearing you on my radio so I was happy with that by itself.

View Attachment I was planning to listen for the SSB CRR, but while mowing the lawn about an hour earlier I found a nest of ground wasp the hard way. I don't usually have a reaction to wasp or bee stings, but since they nailed me three or four times I immediately took two Benadryl just in case. About an hour later it was nap time as the Benadryl kicked in, so off to bed I went. Apparently the ground wasp did not expect me to sting back. I won! Night Ranger
