Maybe not computers, but cell phones my wife can't function without hers. I do most of my posts from my phone myself Tapatalk! I'm weird. I use my cell phone for calls and maybe an occasional text. I mostly have it for the calendar.

I still have a flip phone (An 8 year old Motorola Razr), which does a nice job making calls, and can send texts in a pinch (although I think I could send faster with a morse code key). I do all of my internetting with a computer. I could never read stuff on those tiny phone screens anyway.......

Well mine isn't a small phone 5" screen. LG-G3 but I find them useful I listen to the video gates on it at work face down boss get upset about watching You Tube at work. Posting things on the forum. Looking at EBay items and other internet related stuff. I really don't use a computer that much anymore sad in a way but good in other ways. Your not tied down in a room all day. And can email, talk, text, internet surf.

I use a computer to do all my surfing and email, although I do have an Ipad for when I'm on the couch. And I rarely give out my cell phone #, I prefer the land line. Calling my cell is for emergencies. I also will not use the computer during the weekend. I'm an odd duck.

Calling my cell is for emergencies. I also will not use the computer during the weekend. I'm an odd duck. Nothing odd about it. It's called discipline. I can't tell you how much time I've wasted surfing the internet, when I could have been doing something far more constructive. That's another reason why I don't want a smart phone. The last thing I need is to turn into another phone zombie and walk into a fountain or into other people/traffic. I do have a tablet, but I hate using it, my fingers are far too fat for the touch screen, and I'm always hitting the wrong thing. Plus I can't really type on it at more than a one-finger pace. Not very friendly.... I don't like talking on the cell phone either, unless it's blue-toothed into my hands free setup in the car. I just don't like holding a UHF radio transmitter that close to my head....

We're the last of a dying breed, I'm afraid. Unfortunately, the dying part is becoming far too literal in some circles. But it's funny when you think about it how, in the face of all the technological communications widgets we've invented in the last 30 years, there are a great number of us who would still rather play with "old fashioned" analog AM 2 way radio.

I do it because it's fun, and I enjoy it. I'm sure all of us do.

But you wouldn't build a hobby around it.

Very true. They'll never experience the joy of chasing DX and pulling a distant station out of the aether.

I'm going to step out on a limb here and say that the main reason this is happening is that ratchet-jawed individuals' like myself have been afk (away from keyboard) for a while, SB . Seriously, I've been trying to save my business and career. Oil biz is really hurting down here, and haven't had much time to participate. Still looking for more work to alleviate my financial problems, but I figured I should get back into playing radio again and saying hello to u guys! 73, Randy

I know what you mean. Heavy construction in my area took a hit in 2007-2008 and again in 2010. Tough to try and relax and enjoy your hobbies. I was even selling to keep money flowing. Not fun.
Hope things get better!

I thought maybe you had enough listening to "overmodulated" radios on the videogates....

That's right, channel 13, home of the flat-toppers.... ha,ha. Actually I monitor my modulation with an O-scope and check for spurs on a spectrum analyzer in real time, I swear

A new guy question. Is there a way to log on to the forum and go straight to the new posts? Thanx. There is an option near the bottom of the message boards that allows you to select new threads or new posts. I usually click on new posts and then bookmark that link and that way it automatically puts me to the new posts when I click the link. Here's the link I use: grumpy.proboards.com/posts/recent

I believe some forums also have a decline on postings, probably because of warm weather outside, not on the computer.
Some sponsor contests, I joined the contest on amateur bands, and you know what happen, I won with ready for this...2 contacts with club members, and they have hundreds registered.
Anyhow keep on posting, and try channel 13, I leave it on, , when skip isn't in.
