Wow can't believe I made it on the gate, even though I wasn't running a classic radio. Cobra 29 LTD Bluetooth doing 100watts on the StarDuster remake! Thanks Night Ranger for the Gate!

Yea, and I guess Hi-Fi audio doesn't punch through the noise the way standard midrange pooched CB audio typically does. That or something has seriously degraded in my antenna system, as I wasn't making it all that well...... If I only had the time to pull everything down to renew and replace.....

Sandbagger I was talking to a guy in Florida yesterday on channel 13, he was running a Ranger 6900C4 hitting 1200watts. Now the signal was about 9 S units on my meter and I told him he sounded like he was in PA. with me. Then he switched to the HiFi setup on the same radio wow he dropped down to a S5 and was waving in and out signal wise. He said that the HiFi couldn't drive the amp as hard so he lost power compared to just using a regular hand microphone. He went back to the hand microphone and returned to the S9 units he was before.

He said that the HiFi couldn't drive the amp as hard so he lost power compared to just using a regular hand microphone. He went back to the hand microphone and returned to the S9 units he was before. There is no logical reason, that I can think of, where a high fidelity transmitter would be unable to drive an amplifier any differently than a "standard fidelity" CB, other than differences in power output of the exciter. There is nothing inherently different about HiFi modulation which would preclude a drop in power. I put out the exact same power whether I'm running the HiFi Galaxy, or any of my "Classic" CB's. That said, there are differences in HiFi transmissions which can make it harder to copy through high noise levels over narrower bandwidth AM. For one thing, much of your power is wasted reproducing the low frequencies. While they make the audio sound "warmer" and full bodied, they don't really carry much of the intelligence of the voice. And there is nothing really useful to be carried above 4 Khz either. There's a reason why the engineers at Astatic designed the D-104 with a frequency response peak at 2.5 Khz, and a rapid drop off above 4 Khz. That brightness in audio is what punches through the noise, and maximizes intelligibility. But while that is your signature "Big CB audio" that most of us remember from the 70's, and it works great for skip, it's not as natural sounding.

Night Ranger Normally the beam is ESE, which is about 40 degrees off of optimal direction for SOCA. But once I heard you in there, I moved it toward a more southerly direction. Didn't seem to help. Conditions were a bit strange as they kept flipping around. Right after I started hearing you, a couple of stations from Florida (the "catbox" ) came in there and they pretty much took over on signal.
