I can't believe the clowns I have had to deal with on eBay. I had one who bid on a MK III and then didn't want it because didn't have a mic. And he couldn't pay for it. Plus he couldn't write a sentence that anyone could understand to save your life. So I canceled his bid and the next bidder got it. Now he wants to know the shipping to the west coast, well it's a big amount. So I don't hear from him for a day or two. So i send him a message if he wants to pay or not. He tells me it's been a rough weekend. Great, he spent his bid $ on booze I assume. So I file a claim for non payment. 2 1/2 weeks later I got the ok to sell the radio. I guess I get all of the loser bidders. So eBay sucks.

I used to sell on eBay, but it became a collosal pain in the butt. Unless I have something very unique that will pull a tidy profit I stick to Craigslist. That can be a pain too, but it's free and I don't have to go through the packing/shipping dance I loath so much.

On that front, several local police departments (including mine) have been setting up special parking spots at their precincts, where people can meet to exchange goods. Scammers would not be likely to pull a fast one in the police parking lot with cameras pointed at them.

I refuse to sell on Ebay. I sold a ton on there till a couple of years ago. Then all the rules changed. I had enough. Same here...I bought and sold a ton of stuff on eBay ten years ago, then they changed the rules to protect the buyers and I got burnt by a buyer working the system. I lost the money (pulled from my account) and the part I was selling (buyer never returned it)...I was out about $600. EBay and PayPal refused to acknowledge any problem with that. Dropped them right then...I sell on forums and Craigslist. I'd rather meet people in person. One new scam on Craigslist is responses to old listing to get your phone number, which is then spammed. I do everything via email (through the craigslist intermediate server) now.

I use to buy maybe 10 years ago on E BAY, never again got stuck with some trash. I find it better to sell on forums or qthdotcom for radios, not with the ebay crowd. DOCTOR/795

I have sold a few more radios on eBay since I started this thread. So far so good. Except for some guy in Chile who didn't pay after 6 days and 8 emails. I relisted. The bad news is everyone wants you to give them the radios for nothing. I'm not ready for Craig's list yet. The story's I hear are making me think I'm not ready for the list. eBay still sucks!!

Things took a bad turn, I sold a mobile amp and UPS said they delivered it. But the buyer said they didn't get it. So they filed a claim and PayPal put a hold on my account for the sale price. So it took over a week for them to do a investigation and no answer. So PayPal refunds the buyer. And I have to wait 3 plus weeks to get a check from UPS. Yup eBay sucks. So I learned a lesson on that sale.

So I learned a lesson on that sale. Ebay, in their effort to attract and keep buyers, has become very seller unfriendly. Just about every dispute that isn't blatantly obvious they tend to side with the buyer. Unscrupulous buyers know this and they scam the crap out of sellers, claiming that they never received something, or that it was not as advertised, or that it was damaged somehow. I've read a few accounts where a seller sold a mint condition radio, and the buyer claimed that it was damaged or didn't work, paypal refunded the buyer, and the buyer returned a different (poor condition) radio back to the seller, who is now out the money, and lost his mint condition radio in the process and the buyer ends up re-selling the mint condition radio under a different account. It sure makes me think twice about selling there. But E-Bay really doesn't care about the occasional auction seller any more. They prefer the "storefront" sellers, which bring in a more steady flow of fees......

I remember the good ol' days before PayPal when you waited for payment via postal money order, then used it to pay for shipping at the post office. Sure, there was a time delay involved, but you didn't have these BS claims and disputes back then.

Yes, they don't seem to care very much for the seller now. Between the fees and the way they strong arm you on buyer complaints. It is hard to make money. I'm so sick of it all. And they still SUCK!!

I don't always sell on ebay, but when I do, I post these words of wisdom:
PAYMENT and SHIPPING OPTIONS: By bidding or accepting the “buy it now” option on this auction you are agreeing to the conditions stated below:
PAYMENT: PayPal only. I do not accept bids from Zero " 0 " Feedback members or " 0 " Feedback bidders. All merchandise is sold "as is" and “for parts, repair or not working” since some of the equipment I sell is vintage or pre-owned. There are no refunds, and all sales are "final." No warranties are expressed or implied. That is to protect me from the few dishonest Ebayer's who play swap and blame, etc. I do not open up working units to inspect or to clean unless photos are taken. I state the condition of the item to the best of my ability. If you have any questions feel free to email me about the auction you're interested in. I will respond as quickly as possible. Under no circumstances will an auction be terminated early, it is unfair to other Ebayers and to the seller. Thank you for your understanding.
SHIPPING INFORMATION: I ONLY SHIP UPS WITHIN THE CONTINENTAL USA (48 States.) I use UPS exclusively for shipping. UPS does not ship to P.O. boxes. I will only ship to the address listed on Paypal / Ebay. For all items there is SIGNATURE REQUIRED at the door upon delivery. In the rare event an item is damaged in shipping, it is the buyer’s responsibility to file a claim with the carrier. I include insurance free of charge on all of the items that I sell. All items are hand packed in house. I pack each item differently depending on size, weight, shape, etc. Rest assured, your item will be packed as if I was sending it to myself. Your item will be shipped within 1-5 business days after receiving payment. A confirmation email will be sent when your item has been shipped. UPS ground takes anywhere from 2-15+ business days for delivery, depending on your location in relation to mine. I have no control over UPS. Thanks again and Happy Bidding.
Please, Feel free to add some words of eBay wisdom to this sharable auction context...

I state the same, basically. I just had a sale yesterday. Very clearly I stated shipping to the 48 continental United States only, all caps, in bold. The first offer I got was from a buyer in Germany.

I have had that happen, they don't read the details, or they don't care and hope you will sell to them just because they put a bid or asked a question. I thought no meant NO! I guess not. Maybe they can't read? I don't understand how people don't get it.

Maybe they can't read? I don't understand how people don't get it. Is it ignorance or arrogance?........ I don't know and I don't care! Some people may not read thoroughly enough and are clueless. There are also those who simply ignore the rules, because they don't feel the rules apply to them.

Yes I think people are just out for themselves, and don't care what the listing states. Sad that we live among them.
