You can use any mode that works in an Emergency and one would want to test said Emergency radio equipment periodically to assure it functions properly. Hey there are loopholes in everything you just have to be crafty lol.

That's weak, but go for it......... **Band Plans and Specifications are subject to change without notice. Band Plans are copyrighted and/or otherwise subject to intellectual property rights of all Radio Operators and/or others and cannot be reproduced or copied without prior written consent. "Terms and Conditions Apply", "Check local listing for features and times"........ "And Big Marty really does sell carpet cheaper".

Every time I try to bring that up, I get a "Sorry there was an issue with playback". Well I use Tapatalk to get on the Grumpy's forum and I wasn't sure if I could load a video gate up or not using that method. But I guess it worked I didn't make a long video but it was enough.

I tend to think there may be an incompatibility with Vimeo and my settings, but I don't know what exactly. I can scroll through videos on that site. Some will work, while others give me the "Sorry" error. I can see the first frame of your video, but I get the error when I start to play it.

I was asked it this was Classic Radio FM Roundup? And a way them early Export radios are Classics now. And I can say some in the own right were amazing radios. I ran a SuperStar 3600 which was very stable and a great receiver as well. And there are lots of impressive radios from the 1980s. It is fun looking back I've been in CB radio for 33 years now and look back at the radios that came out when I was younger. I remember them having no warranty whatsoever. And now you buy a radio without warranty you think that's crazy. Funny how the times have changed.

And now you buy a radio without warranty you think that's crazy. Funny how the times have changed. The very first "export" type radio I ever saw was a Lafayette 2400FM back around 1983. A Cybernet chassis design, with FM and extra bands of channels. It was standard power though. The guy who owned it was a wheeler dealer, and I tried my best to get it from him, but he wouldn't trade. The next radio I saw was a Superstar 360, that I got in for repair (back when I used to do radio work on the side with my father-in-law). It needed a final, but it had a Uniden chassis similar to the Cobra 148, only with a few more bells and whistles (like FM and a more capable PLL chip). The first "export" radio I finally got the chance of owning was a President Jackson. I picked it up at a hamfest for a reasonable price. It was also a Uniden chassis, and it was "hi power" (10 watt AM/FM, 40 watt SSB). I picked this up in 1984. Those vintage radios were all pretty stable and worked well. After that, it seemed that they moved their production from Uniden factories to clone designs in other Pacific rim countries. The quality dropped, and they started having drift problems, and sometimes warble issues on SSB. Schematically they were the same as their Uniden made predecessors, but the PC boards were different, the traces were routed differently and there were fewer ground traces, and what was there was thinner. I remember the first Galaxy radio that came out. It was basically a SuperStar 3900 chassis with a built-in freq. counter. The counter generated a bit of hash noise which could be heard in the receiver if it was really quiet. That same basic chassis design is still with us today. They've made updates to it here and there, but it's not much different than it was 30 years ago. But it's still being made in China or another Pacific rim country with cheap parts, and they still drift.

Like you said cheap parts and poor design make a bad radio. And maybe that's the problem cheap too cheap! The CPU radios do fix the stability problems somewhat but then it the receiver problems after that with automatic noise leaveners and noise blankers.

Whether or not a radio has a CPU should have no bearing on drift. Drift is usually caused by crystal oscillators that are prone to temperature shift, or PLL instabilities. It may be coincidental that the radios with the CPU's also have a better PLL design.

I'm still running XP on my laptop at home and the computer at work, neither of which would play it. But my other laptop at work runs Windows 7 and that worked. Might be a different version of Firefox or some other differences as well....

But you guys were all strong to each other. If our group had been in there and anyone was under S3 or so, it would have been a rough noisy copy. Update: I tried the 'gate again tonight at home and this time it worked! I didn't change anything, so now I'm thoroughly confused.

It still works for what I use it for. I have another identical laptop that I loaded Windows 7 on over a year ago, and I just haven't gotten around to switching over. One of these days......... maybe.

I agree about XP. Its a shame I had good luck using that system. I still have it and use it, but not on sensitive items. I'm more of a Mac user at home. I wish I could have stayed in there longer, I got pushed into watching 7 children under 9 years old that night. I swear they came over hyped on chocolate. Got to love family. LOL LOL. Hope we can try it again this Friday. I only got a little taste of FM last week.

Buffalo Bob and one or two others were strong enough to open my squelch with about a 70% quieting signal. Could not hear No Streak, even with filters narrowed up on the Icom and the DSP turned on. There's just too much noise on my end, and it's worse now with the neighborhood lit up with LED Christmas lights....

You can convert the regular XP system to an XP Point Of Sale (used in cash registers and such) that Microsoft will keep updating until April 9th, 2019. I've done it on two laptops and it works great. It only works for 32 bit versions, though. Backup your system before attempting, just in case. www.ghacks.net/2014/05/24/get-security-updates-windows-xp-april-2019/

I did it to an old Dell laptop I have that my Dad uses. I was worried that without the security updates it would be easier to get into while he was online.

I did it to an old Dell laptop I have that my Dad uses. I was worried that without the security updates it would be easier to get into while he was online. I checked that site and I got cold feet after reading that "well, the POS system has the same core, but there may be other differences". The last thing I want to deal with is strange computer issues. I figure that most of the rest of the world has moved on from XP, so the serious hackers will be looking to infect newer systems. In a couple of years, old XP users may end up having the safest systems.........
