has anyone had any experance with this amp builder?? or fixer upper?? as advertize bbi amp repair?? thehobo There is a fairly prevalent presence out there that will claim that this guy is full of inflated claims and really doesn't know what he's doing. I watched one of his videos where he claimed an amp put out a large amount of power (and he showed it on a meter), but he was supplying power to it via thin power cords into a 15 amp power strip. I don't care who you are, you can't create power from nothing. If you are delivering 1 KW of RF power, that means you will consume some level in excess of 1 KW of power supply power (no amp is 100% efficient). And you don't supply that through a power strip....

The few videos I've seen he usually only shows peak wattage so there is that. The few videos I watched were of him repairing Heathkit SB220 amplifiers. They looked like they did work well when he was done with them.
I didn't see the one with the 15A power strip, but if that were the case I agree with Sandbagger. Sounds like 'magic watts'.

Based on what I've seen, he does seem to know what he's doing...... at least as much as other garage shop amp makers. But for whatever reason he seems to attract a fair number of detractors. Maybe because his power claims seem "exaggerated".

BBLie. Are you looking to have an amp built? Be careful. Most builders are using power transistors that are sub-par due to the fact that Toshiba ceased production of their transistors several years ago. No exact (reliable transistor) replacement has been made since. You can have a new amp built by a few builders that still ave some new old stock Toshibas. They are expensive. Or you could look around and find one used that has the real Toshibas in it. I have done the later with good results. The amps with the PP (power pills) or DEI branded transistors may work but are reportedly much more susceptible to high SWR issues and supply over voltage (anything over 14 VDC). Poof. But hey, if you want to try the PP or DEI powered amps just to get a taste of what a working amplifier can do, go for it. Don't want to sound like I'm putting stuff down, just want to stretch your hard earned cash. Check this out... www.facebook.com/Davemadenj-895714250502977/
