MCS 3249 Stereo receiver and a pair of MCS 8320’s Very nice! I always liked the MCS components, and from what I've read, many of their higher end offerings were well built. Yes MCS jam there speakers are excellent and can rock the house!

I just scored a pair of Yamaha NS-20T speakers from a guy about 3 minutes away from me, for $10! One woofer needs to be refoamed, and they're a little rough, but the price was right. Currently there is a complete OEM replacement woofer on eBay for $26, which is less than a foam kit. Random pic from the web...

I would be suspect of the NOS woofer as it will probably be afflicted by the same speaker foam dry rot issue as all foam surround speakers of that vintage. If you look at the new listings for speaker foam kits they most always say something like "new foam formula designed not to dry rot" or similar.

Close up pics looked great, but we'll see when I get it. I may just replace it, confirm operation and then turn them over on FleaBay for a tidy profit.

I received the replacement woofer and the speakers sound fantastic. Upon removal and inspection of the defunct woofer it appears that the surround is completely intact, and it doesn't look to be foam at all, more like fabric material. It pulled away from the paper cone, probably from aggressive bass at high volume. I may pick up some glue and attempt to repair it.

Great news it had fabric or better yet Butyl rubber surrounds. Yes, try to glue the fabric back. I use an industrial version of Elmers glue for re-gluing surrounds. Its made by Scotch and it's called High Performance Repair Glue. It can be had a Staples or other stores for less in a small plastic squeeze bottle.

I recently picked up a somewhat rare and well regarded Kyocera R-851 receiver in very nice condition. The tuner has some issues and only works on occasion, which is a shame because it has an excellent tuner section. I did find a couple leaky caps I'm going to replace, but I have no idea if it'll remedy the issue until I get in there. The good news is that the amp section seems to work flawlessly and it sounds fantastic. Of note, this is one of the earliest MOFSET amps to hit the market, back in 1982. It retailed for $850 when released, which is nearly $2,200 in 2018 dollars. Conservatively rated at 85 WPC. Some internet commenters say they consider this the best receiver ever made. Yikes! Upon reading up on this unit I learned that Cybernet, of CB radio fame, manufactured these for Kyocera early on, and then Kyocera bought out Cybernet. www.hifi-classic.net/review/kyocera-r-851-444.htmlRandom pics from the web... Check for cold solder joins and dirty switch contacts. It might be that simple......... Or not.

Apparently tuner issues are common with these, yet I can't find any definitive cause(s).
I turned it on the other morning and AM eventually started to "work", but then it slowly began to drift through the frequencies while the display readout didn't budge. FM behaves in a similar fashion.

I just picked up a well worn, but 100% functional, Yamaha T-1020 tuner. It's well regarded and considered second in line to their superb T-85, so this one is a keeper. Can't wait to put up a dedicated outdoor FM antenna this spring, just in time for DX season. I also realize that I may be developing a problem as I now own five stand-alone tuners. Yeah, if it's not one thing, it's another. 5 tuners, 4 receivers, 4 CD players, 3 turntables, 2 cassette decks and more speakers than my wife wants to talk about.

Scored a pair of Bose 301 series 2 speakers at the local thrift store for $20. A little rough but fully functional, and they're going for 5 times what I paid on fleaBay. Attachments:

Too good not to share. This is a Philco wireless remote from the early 1940's. No doubt this was some high dollar equipment for the time... youtu.be/5SDWNGrm9Gk

I'll bet that console setup cost a mint back then as well. Too rich for my parent's blood.

There was a nice pair of ADC speakers at Liberty Thrift Sanatoga last Saturday. It was 50% off day and they could have been had for $20 (for the pair.) Just no room at the ranch for any more or I would of snagged 'em. ADCs had the famous sounding KLH 8" woofers in them.

The tweeters appeared to have peed themselves and the woofer surrounds were questionable at best. Besides, I'm in the same predicament as you. If I buy any more speakers I'll need to build another addition, which I'll probably have to sleep in.
