Hello folks first post here. I searched the forum for similar questions, but can't seem to find them. I just built a 11m Dipole and it works well, but I need to get it up to a higher elevation. So I figured I'll hoist it up into a tree, but I've read here and there that some cable types are better for long runs on different wavelengths.
I've used RG-58 for now and it seems to be fine, but that's only 18'. I need to run about 50' of cable from the antenna to my station inside my home.
What type of cable should I buy?

How long the run is and how much power you will be running and what frequency you will be running, is the deciding factor for most people. I have a 100' run and run 400 watts on 11 meters, I use rg8x from DX Engineering. It is 38 cents a foot, and a high quality coax. I have also ran the LMR 400, and RG8U type coax, but for the money a good quality RG8X at a moderate length does a good job for me. For a dipole, it will also be easier to lift and keep in the air than the bigger coax. 73 Whitey

Thank you for the reply. I'm just running 4 watts on the standard CB channels.

In your case RG8X would be what I would use. 73 Whitey

Always buy the best that you can afford but most any 50 ohm coax will be just fine.Losses at 27 mhz are very very low on even Mini 8,RG-8 & RG-58 & I doubt anyone can hear or see the difference on any radio with only 50ft of cable.
