I guess it is true that, every now and then, a blind pig can find an acorn!
About a week and a half ago, here in my community,, someone put up a post on Facebook that they were having a "Garage Sale" nearby. Just on a goof, I asked "any old CB radio gear"... and never got an answer.
Yesterday about 20 minutes before leaving work I got a test message from my daughter-in-law..... one of her good friends right here in town SAW my post.... contacted my DIL, and told her that her husband had an old CB and he said I could HAVE it. Sent a picture.... but it was very dark.... I could tell it was a R/S Realistic of some sort....
When I got there last night, it turned out to be a pretty much new in the box TRC-57 23 Channel SSB.
The guy said that it was given to him as a project by one of his students and that it "would not power up". He said the clock comes on when you plug it in but, on the volume control, there is no "snap" at the bottom end.... so it seemed the switch wasn't working.
I got it home, opened it up, plugged it in (clock came on) got a jumper and bridged across the switch terminals on the volume pot and BINGO....this thing jumped alive. I did not have an antenna hooked up.....but it was loud RF background noise so I know it is going to do something.
The most impressive thing...... when I opened the case......fresh new electronics smell... The kind that is only there when a piece is brand new.
Looking for the correct control pot (and having Hell finding it!) but I'd really like to fix this right.
Also came with the period correct Realistic power desk mic, the black plastic one with the head that swiveled up and down. The whole thing....ready to go....
I still can't believe it.
