Went on Barkets web site, i need to order some parts for my Browning. Never could find a phone #. Do they take calls. I have talked him to years ago, i was wondering if they quit taking phone calls. I did email them & they did answer my email. 238

From the World Wide Web it says,(256) 350-3848. I did not call them but just found it using Google.

When changing the 1/2 watt resistors out what kind is best to use? The 680K x 1/2w that is tied to the 150v diode is bad. Just what kind carbon or something is best? 238

I use the cheap Xicon brand carbon-film resistors from Mouser. Haven't encountered a bad one yet.

Changed out the 150v zener /680K(r68)& 8.5 resistor. That all working ok now. It keys but make no power. Have to check on down the line. Have to start checking the voltages from the power supply out. 238

First thing to make sure of in a Mark 3 SSB transmitter that won't work is to find out if your 27 MHz carrier is being produced at all inside the transmitter. A radio tuned to the same channel as the transmitter should hear a carrier. Use a coax jumper on your receiver radio, and back the outer shell off the plug at the far end. The center pin of the plug now becomes a half-inch long "sniffing" antenna.
If it won't 'sniff' any carrier at all when you key the Mark 3's mike, next thing to find out is how many of the three oscillators in the Mark 3 are running.
A general-coverage receiver is handy for this. The 12AX7 tube just behind the mode selector V1 has two oscillators in it. One of them is 5.0485 MHz, the other one is 5.6465 MHz. If you can hear a carrier from both of these, move to the channel selector. The channel 1 crystal runs at 16.270 MHz.
If any of these three frequencies is missing, this points to the circuit that's blocking the tracks.
And if you can confirm that all three of these are running okay, it's time to move to the next step.

I have a Cobra 200 mounted under the shelf with a 3ft coax i can use. If i understand this. I should get some kind of movement or sound in my 200. If i do not i need a fq counter that can check each one by it self. 238

Well it is the help you get from you and others on here that make it possible to keep this old stuff running. The only radios i work on are for people who are on disability or just can not afford to send them to a shop. The only thing i charge for is parts. Thanks again 2600. 238

Changed out C67 & C64. I was wondering about the strange looking caps, C33/C63 & 2 more that look like them. Are they a different kind of cap? Also seeing that the SSB light wires where cut not sure if SSB even works. Not sure if they done anything else to the SSB. Talk to the owner & a few others an everyone says it sounds good. Puts out 4w swings to 6w on Siltronix meter on avg. Might just leave well enough along. 238
