Its been a long crapy winter here in the catskills but I've gotten a few things finished, started and even bought a couple of cool things for the radio room. I bought my girlfriend a new cobra LCD LX to replace her beat up 29 wx soundtracker. I'll probably restore that for my son's car...not like he'll even turn it on. But i found a very clean old Montgomery ward 40 chnnl base. Tuned it up and wired a power mic to it and it talks great! So off it went to my buddy "backwoods" a new to cb start-up. He's a local forester and arborist that i do a lot of work with. After hearing me talk cb in my truck he got interested, so first we stuck a uniden 510 in his pick up and a lil wil on top. That set the hook. Then he figured a bsse was next. Now ol'backwoods is doin ok. Good job, plenty of sidework so he has some extra cash but... he also has three kids and one on the way,a great wife, couple cars and a house to take care of. That means he'll make do with a used base station.ok fine, we all started that way, but a used antenna? Used coax? No, i think if your climbing the roof to set an antenna get off to a clean start. So he bought an inexpensive starduster workman knock-off. I had one late seventies and it was a good antenna. Not this time. This thing is garbage. Should have gotten an antron 99. 321

Yea, you have to be careful with imported copies of classic 70's era antennas. Most are made with very thin aluminum tubing, and will not last long in windy areas. But if you are opting for a fiberglass "stick" antenna, skip the A99 and go for the Imax-2000. A much better performer.

10-4 good idea. My neighbor runs one, loves it. He gets great reports on his radio contacts. I can't really tell cause hes always blowin the windows right out of my house! Hes a 1/6 of a mile away. Thanks. Now I'm gonna go to our antenna site on this forum and rave about MY new antenna. The sirio 2016 5/8 aluminium groundplane. 321

I have been struggling (mostly with myself.... to make it a priority) to get my workbench going to get some projects through the pipe. My biggest problem is not locking down to one.....finishing it...then on to the next.....finish it..... on to the next.... Rather, I kind of thrash around and ultimately get absolutely NOTHING done! In the radio queue, I have a Royce 1-600 that I have recapped ...but it needs some TLC on a bench. Get real close you can hear SOMETHING in the speaker.... but just a whisper. I have a Cobra 21 GTL that is another one that actually belonged to my father-in-law. I have re-capped it....but was too stupid to test it FIRST to make sure what it did or did NOT do..... and it doesn't do ANYTHING. I need to start at ground zero. Then there is my SBS Console V that I have only been hanging on to since the late 80's and wanting to bring it back (tip o'the hat to 321 for the spare radio). ALL of this....I still intend to get going..... But..... For side income... I play in a band on weekends. My current condition... knees going bad, back not far behind it... makes it a horror dragging that amp around at 70-75 pounds. I am getting situated right now to build up a replacement gigging amp with about 40 watts.... but only about 28 - 30 lbs weight. That will help. THIS ONE is a money maker.... so I need to get it done and stop killing myself. Too much on the plate is what they call it.......
