Was moving stuff around from the back of the closet and said what the heck, it hasn't been turned on since the late '70's. To my surprise it came on! Dang now what do I do? I don't have an antenna anymore but i was able to scrounge up a pl 259 connector and some wire. Went out on my back porch to see if I could hear anything. About 6pm today in the eastern time zone on channel 6 what do you know i was picking up people talking skip. Brought back some good memories. It was a fun time to be on the air and now it has been replaced with Facebook and Tweeter. I may have to get a small magnetic mount antenna to see if I can really hear anything and key the mic up once or twice just for ole times sake.

Good luck with it ! I run a Lafayette 25a. Love that old radio. I have a couple of old mag mounts. Where in the east are you. I'll send you one. 321

Put up an inexpensive vertical antenna and get back in the air. Two 10 foot lengths of 1-1/4" EMT conduit with a coupler will get your antenna tip up at 30 feet. You can use your house to attach the conduit near the top.

Thanks for the offer and ideas for an antenna. I think I will stay with the mag mount for now as I live in a neighborhood that frowns on antenna's. No worries though I just have to revive some of the old brain cells and may put up a dipole for now that will keep me with a low profile.

If you have any tall trees, you can hang one of those fiberglass antennas like an antron 99 upside down in the tree using a rope they will work as well up side down as they will right side up and be hidden in the tree.

Hiding it in a tree is not a bad idea. I was a big fan of center fed dipoles back in the day and i have been looking at the roof line and the distance between the ridge vents and the end of the roof or other vents thinking I might be able to work something between the two. back then I had a radio shack 5/8 wave up on the roof of the brownstone I grew up in plenty high. I also made directional antennas inside the attic putting wire on the roof trusses to make a beam antenna.

But it's lousy for local talk. You will need to find an antenna configuration that can be hung in the vertical position for local talking.

How time flies! Now it's 2023, I turned 63 this year, have had this radio since I was 16! Turned it on again and it still lights up. I do need to get a new stock mic for it, cause the PTT arm some how broke and I have it taped together so I can at least hear the hash, cause this was one of those radios that put out no sound without the mic plugged in. It also has a small box attached to it with crystals in it that allowed it to go up to 40 channels. Can't tell if it works or not as the directions are gone on where to put the selector or set the switch. Really don't remember anything about it. If anyone can share where I may be able to get a 700 ohm dynamic microphone that would be great.
Thanks

If you can't find anything, I have a 6 wire Turner CS-2 that is Low-Z I could throw your way. Mic is NIB (although the box is old). Used to use them a lot on the Johnson radios.

Hi and thanks for the offer! I have actually been able to find some stuff that should work, but will be in touch if not. It has been an interesting trip down memory lane. Nothing compares to the smell of resistors and transistors when they warm up. :-)
