CB radio is about dead in my area. One channel with two local operators at times and not so friendly anyways. Never could break-in on channel 6, 11 and 20 with high power. On the other hand Ham radio is always busy with contacts all the time. So, I sold my CB gear. Later.

On the other hand Ham radio is always busy with contacts all the time. So, I sold my CB gear. Later. That's a shame, but it's a very real fear that I have as well. I've had a ton of fun collecting and restoring vintage radios and sharing the experiences with other local operators who feel similarly. But the local crowd seems to be dwindling somewhat. Hopefully they'll be back when winter shows its ugly head. But it does become somewhat pointless to have all these radios if there's no one to talk to on them. Someday, I'll probably have to deal with that situation, Thankfully, today is not that day...... Sorry you had to sell out. But try to keep an ear out. You never know what might spring up out of all that dead air.

Once you've tasted the water... you can't go back. I intend to set up at least one known good radio, then get my A99 up.... THEN do something in the way of a proper horizontal dipole....then get something "cool to drink" and wait on the next solar cycle peak. Sounds dumb...but at my age it could be the last solar cycle I see! Ya never know! I still want a 2m/70cm base set up too. 10m....maybe.... lower.... I don't know. I'll always have something though!

I only talk Local on the CB & there are only one or two of those left & one of those is a known Liar & Thief so I Rarely ever connect the Antron 99 to one of the over 150 CB Radios that I own.I connect it to my ICOM 746 & leave it on 10 meters usually.I work DX on HF on my main HF Station which is my ICOM 7600 with the ICOM PW-1 amplifier connected to my Mosley TA-53M yagi.Workinf DX with it is as easy as stepping on the HEIL foot switch & talking into HEIL FIN.

As a ham i agree with six shooter on the lack of cbers out there BUT,i love the freedom and fun of cb and the only way to remedy the problem is to promote cb radio! Get your kids a set of walkie talkies! Talk a buddy at work into putting one in his car, even if you have to donate an old rig and antenna. Ive done it. It works! If theres an older guy out there that needs some human contact i cant think of a better way than with a cb.young guys down at the firehouse love the radios i donated and put them right in their pickups. Now their on all the time. Im not a quiter. Ever. 321

I may just star in that one. Do you think the Bandit could be a creepy old bald fat guy with a bad temper? Now let me see, who could fill in for Sally Fields. I know, Rosane Bar.

30 years ago CB radio had at least 20 locals on the band every night and at least one CBer organized a party every weekend. It was wild & fun back then. Now, about dead.

Hahahahaha yeah! 10-4! Thats a great match up. We should start writing a script and solicit galaxy radios for product placement in our up coming film.

Speaking of TEXAS STAR,all legal crap aside, what is their level of quality? Based on the ones I have seen and heard, it is the 11 meter amp I would buy if I was to get one. But like all electronics these days, current quality may not be the same. Very clean sounding on sideband.

Hahahaha! Man your good at this! You should have been a casting director. I am under the impression all new texas star amps have to be converted to 11m after purchase. I should have also said that i was asking in regard to the sweet sixteen in particular.

The guys that I know have bought the 350 and 500 from copper and they had already been converted. That was about 2 years ago. The 1600? don't know.

Roger that. I would love to see what you get for your money. I have a couple of tx800s love them,1100pep all day long...but for 10-12m I'd like to see 1500+ just to know the diff.

Speaking of TEXAS STAR,all legal crap aside, what is their level of quality? I'd steer clear of the ones with DEI transistors, other than that you are good to go. You aren't going to get the output wattage you'd get from a Class C box, but then again you can actually use a Texas Star on SSB. Well, except for the one pill modulators...

Not a single person will notice a change on their meters if you make the switch from 1100 watts to 1500. so save your money.

Ok, fair enough. But i just learned about the alpha -pa70. Will they notice 3000? 4400 watts should give 1 more "S" unit over 1100 watts. So 3000 will be a little over 1/2 "S" unit. However, the Alpha is a vastly superior amp.
