so, i have been busy doing the 100 thousand mile tune up on the tram. i ordered the multi section can capacitors from antique electronic supply, along with the saddle clamps. that worked beautifully. a little tedious, with drilling out the old can caps. but worth the effort. i had seen a resistor kit, and high voltage capacitors on epay, and got those. another kit had the low voltage capacitors. with some hours labor!, ( glad im retired) i replaced almost all the resistors. and all of the capacitors. what resistors didnt come in the replacement kit, i got at a local electronics store here in lafayette. cleaned, deoxit all swithes, pots. after i finished doing all that i installed a new relay, and a new set of tubes. probably didnt need to. but now i have working spares. all of the tubes i replaced were stamped tram. i actuall put the tram 6l6 tube back in. the tune and loaded more wattage than the replacements i got. i have to say. after the labor i put in. ( well worth it. this d201 is awesome. im very happy with the end result

my d201 arrived today, in its original box. d104 in its original box. and the manual. . all in excellent shape. i took about 45 minutes and powered it up on my variac. all i can say is wow!. everything works flawlessly! . great audio!. receive, that i think is better than my new dx2995. spot on frequency off the crystals. and manual vfo works great! . i honestly couldnt find any faults. all the knobs turn nice and smooth, tight. this radio is obviously very low mileage. use.. i am so pleased!. ive had a couple in the past, but nothing compared to this one. capacitors, resistors, contact cleaner, are on order. all tubes are stamped tram. this radio is one heck of a time capsule!

How high in frequencies does the 23 channel d201 go. Through the vfo. With the transmit mod done on the vfo. Does it go to 40 channels. I am waiting for this radio to be shipped to me, and don't know.

He very well may be having someone close to him, or himself on another eBay account buying his fraudulent radios. Because of not selling. The words out!. And people interested in this house usually browse the radio forums. Will have to see if some of those items show up for sale under a whole new named eBay account. Scammers. ( Crooks) always find a way.

That looks "very nice-a" (ala the French guy in the castle in Monty Python and the Holy Grail). You could always make up some fantastic story about it like Superhawk does and list it on Ebay for $3,000 and see what happens. I've seen the post, and adds on Facebook. ebay. Made sure I didn't pay for fairy tales. Stooping with b.s. to make a few bucks. People get burned!. Just not right. I plan on keeping this radio. And doing the necessary steps to keep it going. Not everyday you find one this clean.

buyer beware. its ashame how people mislead, (lie) to sell something at a overly inflated price. for someone who is gullable, because there mind doesent work that way. its easy to get ripped off. ive bought radios, and gear that was misrepresented, makes you feel like a heal!. then ive bought radios and gear that were understated. and feel great !. you just never know!.

Well today I made a ugly balun for the bottom of the mast on the super penetrator. I don't know if I needed to. I used to use a imax antenna. And the balun worked good with that antenna. The antenna is the first thing I'm doing on setting up a base station. So I won't know how things work until I get the shack up and running. Grounding is my next step. Ground rod for antenna, and another ground rod for radio equipment. Is this Overkill?

so i assembled the super penetrator today. it went together well, although i think before i get it up in the air i may put heavier hose clamps on the joints. i dont have access to a antenna analyzer. so i put the antenna on a temporary mast. and hooked up a radio and meter to it. took awhile to get the swr where i wanted it. ended up being pretty close to 1:1 on my meter. i had the antenna about 12 feet off the ground when adjusting. im hoping when i get it up on the mast it is still good. this may be a silly questio, ive been away from radio for awhile. when i adjusted the antenna, i used a radio with 4 watts output, about a 100 feet of coax. when i get the coax into my radio room. and use considerably more power, will this affect swr readings?

i have purchased a few mark 3's in the last year, expect to pay from $350.. to $600.00 for a good one, if you get a fixer upper you will have to send it in for the 300.000 mile overhaul, age, use takes its toll on these radios, either way you do it your going to have atleast a few hundred if your lucky and up to $600.00 or more for a good everyday user. i noticed that the ebay $ 300.00 specials are usually good parts radios at best, your better off spending the money up front and get a good one from one of the forum members on this site, barketts, e.t.c

i think that radio is probably one of radio shacks best radios. i have had 2 of them over the years. there is a audio mod that you can do to them and the robyn 520d, ( same chassis) that opens them up and sounds good, there not wattage monsters, just a good overall radio

i have the a/m transmitter mark 3 and what tombstone is saying is true, i can carry on a conversation on sideband just like he says, i dont quite get it but just did it a couple of weeks ago, a/m transmitter, a/m, sideband receiver. actually i have it for sale in the for sale section, nobody believes me either about this working this way on this radio

heres an odd one i never heard of, i picked up a browning mark 3 , a/m only transmitter and the receiver is the standard receiver with a/m ssb . i already had another receiver that looked and worked better so i hooked the 2 together, now when i switch the receiver to ssb it also transmits on sideband, anyone ever hear of this>?
