MCS 3249 Stereo receiver and a pair of MCS 8320’s Very nice! I always liked the MCS components, and from what I've read, many of their higher end offerings were well built.

Good morning, I am trying to post images with an entry using a phone. In the mobile version of the forum I can not find that option. In the desktop version I found the attachment option. My phone, which has only 2G of internal memory, notifies me there is insufficient memory to do so. My question is there a way in the mobile version to add pics that I have not found. Let me know if I am SOL trying with an low memory phone and need a PC or better phone? Let me know if this is the wrong area for this question please. Thank you for your time in advance, Buzzsaw out I don't think there is a way to do it in the mobile version, I need to switch to the desktop version to do so.

A couple weeks ago I traded my reel to reel deck for three sets of speakers. Really, the only ones I was interested in were the Pioneer CS-G403's. They pair nicely with the big ol' SX-1050 and they look great IMHO. The others were a lower end set of Pioneer CS-G105's, which go great with the SX-434 I got from Sandbagger, and also a pair of Baby Advent 3's in need of woofer surrounds. CS-G403... Now you just need a 10" powered sub woofer and wrap it in a large COSTCO Chezz-It box, haha View AttachmentI like the way you think.

Not vintage by any means, but I was a little bored at lunch and snapped a pic of my desktop system at work. A JVC head unit pulled from one of my past cars powered by a big ol' wall wart, 2 amps IIRC. I painted the case with a textured gun metal spray paint and stuck four little rubber feet on the bottom. The speakers are Dayton Audio brand through Parts Express in Ohio I got on sale for about $30. It sounds fantastic, but being in a "work environment" I never have a chance to enjoy its full potential, which would surely get me fired. This unit was my inspiration... www.parts-express.com/lepai-lp-s60-4x25w-desktop-mini-amplifier-with-remote-usb-mp3-media-card-fm--310-306For some reason we lose power here at work on a fairly regular basis, and when we do I need to re-enter all the preset stations and tone settings on the JVC head unit, a major PIA, especially after walking in first thing in the morning. I don't like to be inconvenienced by such trivial things, so I upgraded. I took to eBay with a $50 budget and started doing some research otherwise. I landed on the Yamaha RX series receivers from the late 80's/early 90's. They were reviewed well when new, have decent tuner specs (that's all I'll be using this for), seem to hold up over time and are reasonably priced. I scored an RX-530 in great shape from the original owner, with the original remote and manual for just over $51. Not too shabby... Attachment Deleted

Receiver Shoot-Out: Vintage vs. High-Tech"Even with all the levels carefully matched, and even in conditions where none of the receivers were ever pushed past their limits, the Pioneer SX-1980 simply beat the hell out of the other receivers."

Can I run 2 radios on one antenna, like my Washington and also maybe a 2 meter or something like that? You can run two radios on one antenna if you use a proper switch box. And I'll let someone more experienced chime in, but I don't think you could run a CB and a 2 meter radio on the same antenna. CB is 11 meters, and it, and 2 meters have completely different antennas. Receive, maybe. Transmit, I don't think so.

I just had the Florida vs. PA debate with a buddy of mine. He's been talking about moving to Florida for a while now. In the past I pointed out the hazard of snakes and gators, then hurricanes as Irma approached. He said that was a small price to pay not to worry about snow, which I thought was absolutely nuts. I said "Sure, but snow doesn't craw out of the water and kill you when you're not looking". Well, chalk it up to "the grass is always greener" situation. Until you've experience both places, it's tough to compare the two objectively. 25 years ago, I was chomping at the bit to move to Florida. I wanted a year 'round boating season, and an escape from the bitter cold and snow. I figured it gets nearly as hot and humid up here in the peak of summer, so it looked like a win-win. Well, it never happened (mostly because of an inability to sell my house), and now years later, I'm glad I never went. I still hate the cold and hate driving in the snow (actually I wouldn't even mind driving in the snow, if there were no others on the road), but now I also have a tough time dealing with heat and humidity (mostly humidity), as well as the cold. The bugs, termites, and other "critters" down south are also problematic. I also discovered that I like the forests full of trees and mountainous areas. When I retire, I will be moving somewhere. I just have to figure out where. There are way too many variables to consider, but I'd like to move a little further south (but not near the coast) and out of the snow belt. But time will tell. Then there is the opinion of "ol zero-five" who claimed that living in Miami was way better than anywhere in "communist Pennsylvania"...... I'm strongly considering Delaware when/if I retire. Low taxes, lots of nice, small towns, close to the beach and/or bay if I feel the need, and still within a days driving to "the mountains". Yeah, still cold and snow, but markedly better winters than PA believe it or not.

Made it through another one. Put up the shutters and waited. I'm 25-30 mile off the east coast. Expecting some bad winds of over 100. It got close to that. But we did ok. Lost some shingles and my fence was killed. Time to move back up north, had enough of this crap. Glad to hear you survived. Do you have power? Last count, over 6 million people were out of power and it could take several weeks to get it back depending on where you are. Don't be too anxious to move up north, then you'll have to deal with snowstorms...... I just had the Florida vs. PA debate with a buddy of mine. Not sure what all the fuss is over this particular Sony. Both my JVC T-X55 and the tuner in the Pioneer Sx-1050 blow this thing away in terms sensitivity and selectivity. EBay, here it comes!

Shot score! Last night I picked up a mid-80's Sony ST-S555ES tuner for $5.00. It's a little scuffed up, but not terrible, and these things are well regarded amongst audiophiles. Retailed at $450 when new! Instead of regular RCA jacks in the rear it uses a 4 pin mini DIN jack, which is supposed to be run through Sony's "Audio Current Transfer" adapter, and of course that wasn't included. No problem, there's a quick mod using a couple of 620 ohm resistors which will allow it run without the Sony adapter. The last one sold on eBay without the adapter went for $70, so I think I did okay. Can't wait to get it modded and "on the air". www.thevintageknob.org/SONY/sonyes/STS555ES/STS555ES.htmlHad some free time today and finally got around to modding this Sony. The end result? Well, it ain't pretty as far as the soldering job goes, but it works like a charm.

But I'll bet it wasn't as cheap as the "stark white" type. And you would be a winner. They're currently $14.69 for a 2 pack on Amazon. The upside is that they use only 2 watts each and put out the equivalent of 25 watts, and lifespan is rated at 15,000 hours. I figured since I leave the back lights on all night every night it would be worth the investment.

If you could get an LED to perfectly imitate the glow of a warm filament bulb, I'd be more inclined to use them. Not sure about mini lamps, but I have a pair of LED filament bulbs lighting the back steps of our addition. They look like standard incandescent bulbs and they put out a lovely, warm, white light.

Even with excellent signal strength and quality on channel 6, lately I've been experiencing pixelation from time to time, and I believe it's summer skip. VHF channel 2, MeTV, more often than not has been unwatchable the last month and a half or so. Signal strength remains in the 70's, but signal quality drops into the 20's while it was 60' & 70's prior to the warm weather. This happened last summer, but not as severely. Conditions for TV dxing must be good.

Ah, I love grilling with a cold beer in hand, and all my friends know it, so I'm usually the guy in charge of the grill at get-togethers. Matter of fact, I'll be grill master general a little later today at an 8th of July celebration. Cheers!
