I get it tuned in less than 3 minutes usually. I use an MFJ analyzer right at the feedpoint.

The maco 5/8 weighs alot less than a imax 2000. A whole lot less! So you can put it up higher. Also I have seen alot of problems with tuning. Antennas of the 99/2000 have problems with radiating the coax itself -just changing the placement of the excess coax -can change the swr. This is a tuning problem. Antenna designs like the Maco are not affected by changing the arrangment of your coax. Solarcon I was told use to have instructions to prevent this by telling you to wrap your coax around your mast a few turns. Wrap the coax around the mast, are you sure about that??? If that is true then Solarcon must be brain dead

Has anyone compared the gain of an Antron 99 against an IMAX 2000? I will say that I'm not a particular fan of either one, but the (I)MAX-2000 is the better performer of the two. The 2000 is a 5/8" length and that gives in a slight edge over the 1/2 wave A-99. I especially do not like the A-99 because it decouples RF poorly which allows the feedline to radiate contributing to increased instance of RF interference to neighbors electronic widgets. One of our locals here changed out an A-99 for an Imax and his signal increased close to 1 "S" unit. Another (Spitfire) changed out an A-99 for an Alpha 5/8th and saw over a 1 "S" unit increase on my end.

Remember, Dave, the A-99 was 70' in the tree against the Alpha@ 50', with a 6db increase, in the real world.

Before I moved I had a Imax 2000. It caused significant TVI. When I moved I put up another Antron 99. Bad problem with TVI. Took it down and put up a Maco 5/8. Same height absolutely NO TVI. That is because the A99 has no counterpoise radials. SANDBAGGER said it in a nut shell. That is the biggest factor with stick antennas causing TVI. They have earned the name bleed stick (A99) and rightly so. Now as for a Maco weighing less than a Imax 2000. I can tell you this for sure. We tried to put up a Imax2000 and it was so freaking heavy with the length of pipe attached even after removing the ground kit. We said forget it and immediately put up a Maco 5/8 with the same length of pipe with no problem. Here's the deal. It's the center of gravity. The Imax has all the brass fittings and glue and fiberglass throughout the length of the antenna. The Maco's center of gravity is near the bottom of the antenna. It's simple physics. Take a 5lb weight and put it on the end of a 5ft pipe and lift it from the other end. Now take the 5lb weight and put it on a 15ft pipe and try to lift it from the other end. Get the picture.

I had an I Maxx 2000 once and it worked ok. But im a cut aluminum antenna person. I was taking down my Maxx 2000 last fall to install another antenna and the top section snapped off when i was taking the thing down! Bye bye I Maxx 2000.......... If it were one of my aluminum antennas i would have been able to fix it easily, but these fiberglass antennas break to easily at the joints, and if you break one you are DONE!!
