I did it! I heard myself come over the Classic Radio Live Audio Feed via skipland this afternoon. There was about a 20 second delay, but I dropped the maul on the DX in Eastern PA more than once. Too bad Sandbagger was not around. I called Sandbagger several times over the air, and then I heard myself call Sandbagger about 20 seconds later over the live Internet feed.
Ha!

Shame I missed that. I did notice the skip running a bit when I briefly checked the radio. But I was otherwise occupied with weekend chores, so I missed it. And my beam wasn't even south. More like ESE. Shame the streamer doesn't record too (actually I could but I'd need a ton more HD space). At least you now know it's possible.

I should have recorded it myself, but I was concentrating on making it happen. I have been listening to the skip or lack there of for that past several weekends. Around 2:30 p.m. EDT today (4/6/2008) I started hearing New York and Pennsylvania coming in on 27.385 LSB at my location in South Carolina, so I dialed down to 27.215 and started transmitting in short burst. I then waited to see if I could hear my short transmits over the Classic Radio Roundup audio feed in Pennsylvania. At first I could hear the outer banks of North Carolina coming in over the live feed, but nothing from me further inland in South Carolina. After about 15 minutes the skip moved to where I was and I started hearing my brief transmits over the live Internet feed. At that point I keyed down and made a call for Sandbagger, and about 20 seconds later I heard my voice come over the skip in Pennsylvania via the live audio feed. I was "wurl wide" in PA, and "dropping da maul". He he. Next time I'll be ready to record myself coming in skip over the live audio feed in Pennsylvania. After all it is not everyday you get to hear yourself come in via CB skip 500+ miles away in another state in almost real time. -Night Ranger

Maybe next time I can be "...wurl wide White Moses in da cotton fields of da Carolinas". I never did get the local rednecks calling The Carolina's the "Cackalacky" .... whatever that means. Another piece of local trivia is if you are from Monroe, NC you call it "Mun-row". If you are from Gastonia, NC you call it "Gas-tone-eee" and you've done time in prison, and if you are from Belmont, NC you tend to stink from not taking a bath in ages. I am originally from South Carolina or at least that is what my parents told me, but I never quite got the local mind set.

We have a town (well, actually a semi-rural suburb) nearby named Worcester (Pronounced wor-cess-ter). But in Massachusettes, a town by the same name is pronounded Wooster. Go figure... We have a multitude of Indian names for places, which cornfuse the tourists. Names like Schuylkill, Bryn Mawr, Conshohocken, Bala Cynwyd and others. Then there are those wonderful Amish towns like Blue Ball, Bird-in-hand, Paradise, and Intercourse (And they all used to be stops on a long gone train route. Imagine the conductor calling those out). Then there is Centralia, which has had a continuous underground coal fire burning for close to 40 years now, and all but one or two houses have been torn down, and the town pretty much is abandoned. I live a comfortable driving distance from all of these places. It's interesting to say the least......

I have tried several times on Wednesday nights to "shoot" the skip up to Pa but guess I have not been lucky enough yet. I have been doing it from my mobile which has a lot more get up and go from it than the base does. Maybe one of these days you will hear the ole Afterburner kicked in and transmitting live from here in West Virginia right next to the Kentucky line.

Short skip conditions ( e skip, or sporadic e) should get you guys into the streaming audio server at Sandbagger's shack. We had a fair amount of short skip a few months back, but if the skip is rolling, it may be one big ol' hetrodyne o' noise on Spew Radio No reason not try it though. Maybe once the band starts to open up and we get to work each other, then Sandbagger may find a change of heart regarding his contempt towards skip Holy hell Dave...aren't you tired of talking to the Connex crew in P-P town yet? Time for some real CB operators to get on the channel... Grumpy's Olde Time Radio Forum operators #glow# #fingers# #cbop# #smilies-42765# ;D

That's a good part of what CRR (and CSSBR) is all about. My "contempt" for skip is directly related to the heterodyne, noise, and "audio-audio-audio" stations out there all piling on top of each other to the point where it becomes painful to listen to and hard to talk over to the locals. If there were a magical skip filter that filtered out all that garbage and let in the "real" radio ops, it would be a good thing. An increase in DX propagation might bring an interesting element to CRR, but there will be a trade off. We'll no longer be able to hear the guys in Jersey or out in Grumpy's neck of the woods. Sporadic-E skip will probably be fun. But when that F-layer stuff ramps up in a few years, it'll be tough hearing even you over the mess. It might be a little better on the SSB channels, so you'd better warn the guys that I might be camping out on 37 lower when that happens. ;D

There were light skip conditions early this morning around 6:30 AM between South Carolina and Pennsylvania. My dog woke me up wanting to go outside. I came back in and turned the radio on. To my surprise the skip was rolling. I talked to Missouri, Florida and Texas on 21 AM. I heard myself weakly come over the live feed, but some other part of the U.S. had better conditions in to PA than I did. I figured the chance of catching Sandbagger at 6:30 AM EDT was remote, but what the heck. I don't get to choose when skip runs between PA and SC. www.shadowstorm.com/mp3s/Night_Ranger_July_20_2008.mp3

I'm assuming you are referring to The Beacon over in Spartanburg, S.C. If so then the answer is yes, but it was many years ago. Famous Beacon quote...
