Ok, I already have an older "used" PDL and I can buy a brand new old stock one along with the orginal stacking kit. If I do this will it work with one antenna being old and one being old but in "new" condition? Also I have heard this is a kick -butt setup...is it guys??
thanks

Age of the antennas should not matter as long as they're both working similarly. The question is whether you would want to stack 2 smaller beams, or just get a single larger one.

It is always an exercise in compromise when your on a budget and ya gotta make work what you have. I always ask myself, "can I improve my station with junk I already have".

An Ol' timer once told me, with mountains of radio 'junque' around, "there is and endless supply of projects there, I should never need to buy new anything". He was 75 at the time and a veteran of the Norwiegan army in exile during WWII. That guy was FULL of stories.

Man ain't that the truth. My wife just sees the UPS guy coming and start complaining about all the "Started" projects I have.... Well I actually can get the original PDL stacking kit that was made for the PDL's..so it's from the factory. Of course that doesn't mean it will work

Husker
When you go to stack an old, antenna and a new one. The first thing I have always done was to disassemble the old one and clean up all the joints (places where tubes fit into each other), Use 00 steal wool with no cleaners very lightly. On the tips of the PDL replace the nuts and bolts (clean the tips also) on the tips where the weirs attach.
Clean the coax connectors I would also replace all the hardware that holds the elements to the hubs. This will also give you time to find any stress cracks that might have developed Over time, also replace the wire on the old one.
Lots of work, but well worth the hassle
Marc.
I have also used a shotgun cleaning brush inside the larger sections.

A little Penetrox on the joints of the elements that slip inside each other will do a yeomans duty over time. It makes dissassembly easier. R&L and AES sells it in a bottle for $14.99. It's not cheap but it's worth it.
