Well, I started messing with the Courier 23 this weekend. I purchased it from Bioman a couple weeks ago and finally got a chance to look at it... Got it up and running, and found out that some golden screwdriver had been in there at one time before me... The Channel selector does not line up with the frequency selected.. (for example, Channel 6 27.025 is found on selector position 18 )... I pulled out the large Amphenol 4 pin mic connector, made a couple spacers out of stainless steel, and installed a modern 4 pin mic jack. And did a few Audio tests before I started modifying the audio chain... I did a sweep of the audio from 0 to 10,000 Hz Not too bad really: riley-music.com/BowsStuff/Courier23/StockAudioSweep.gifThen I recorded some Audio. Since I do not have a stock microphone, I interfaced the radio to my Vudu Audio Rack, and received the transmitted signal on my Icom IC-718, with has 6kHz of audio bandwidth. It actually sounds OK stock... but we can make it better, I have a few capacitors, a soldering iron, and very few morals.... riley-music.com/BowsStuff/Courier23/StockAudio.mp3So I'll get to swapping the audio chain capacitors, and chasing down my messed up channel selector and dead channel problems.. it seems I have a couple dead 37 Mhz Xtals...

Thanks Scott, if you can check with him about Crystals..
I need:
37.750 Mhz 37.800 Mhz To get the 23 Channels up and running.
37.900 Mhz, so I can get up to Channel 26, 27, 28, 30 (with a switch) 37.950 Mhz will get me up to Channel 31, 32, 33, 35
Then, if I really get stupid, I could do a crystal switch to put it up on 10 meter AM.
If I can find a 39.635 Mhz, 39.685 Mhz, 39.735 MHz, 39.785 Mhz, I could cover all most the entire 10 meter AM band...
Let me know if you can find any of these... but the 37.750 Mhz and 37.800 Mhz are most important for stock configuration.
Thanks.

Well, I thought I'd post a couple photos of this beast. I'd say it's pretty clean for a '63 Model... ;D The only thing I've done so far is install the modern 4 pin Mic Jack... Front: Back: Top Inside: (that Crystal install is FUGLY from the factory) The Gut Shot: And My classic Trio (the whiteface isn't in here, but I got one of them too...) I have a new set of stock 37 MHz crystals coming ( the 37.750 is dead and the 38.800 is missing), and I'm looking for a 37.900 so I can get up to channel 27 with a crystal switch... (anybody got one?)
