Been a fan of CB for years, usually had some kind of 'worked well enough to listen in on long road-trips' system set up, and I'm finally working to properly install a CB now that I own a car. I've gotten the antenna fully worked out after about $100 of experimentation with different lengths until I found one that can get a good <1.5 SWR even when run through a splitter so it can be used as my AM/FM antenna as well. But now I'm running into a (admitedly minor) problem: There simply don't appear to be any high-end remote-head or no-extra-features-compact CB radios for use in smaller cars.
Yeah, I know, a 29-year-old with a CB w/ 4' antenna properly mounted on the roof of a 2007 Toyota Yaris isn't exactly what most people think of when they think "CBer in a four wheeled vehicle" these days, if ever. But short of hacksawing a large box out of my dash, I simply don't have room for a full-sized CB radio to be installed. Not even underdash, for various reasons.
Anyways, I had a link about the Cobra 75WXST posted to me, along with here, so I thought I'd ask one about the other, and see if there's any other options out there worth investigating? Specifically, is the 75WXST worth the cost? Or are there better options?

Hmm.....I'm not well versed on the compact radios with controls on the mic. I think that Radio Shack has them but..........? Something tells me that some of the Magnum radios have the mic controls also but I might be wrong. You sure don't want to hack your dash up! Sorry I can't help you more, someone around here knows, good luck.

The current most popular one appears to be the Cobra 75WXST. Others I know are running the Maxon MCB-10A.
Back in the late 70s, I ran a Clarion remote that wired into my stereo. When squelch broke, the CB audio would override the stereo and come through the car's stock speakers. I saw one of them on eBay a couple of years ago and was sorely tempted to purchase it.
Reports are good on the Cobra and Maxon but that old Clarion was for a fact one, killer little transceiver. Out of the box it did a lot better than 4 watts and had great receive.
There's probably others out there....you might check motorcycle enthusiast sites.

ive never herd or read any good comments on the performance of remote head cb units or combo cb/am&fm antennas . a sparkified uniden 68 and a wilson 1000 would be a great starter setup and easily accept up to a 4 pill amp later if you so choose to do so .
