Does anyone remember these radios? The name "Buddy" seems to ring a bell but I've never seen one and know nothing about them. Check out Ebay item #160273886780. They're probably junk and I think that radio would sound better with an unamplified D-104 instead of the TUP9 stand that's on it. The price he wants is outrageous too. I could be wrong about the junk comment.

Supposedly you could trick them out for some serious power output, as the original final tube was a 6146. I've never seen, heard, or worked on one. I wouldn't mind playing with one for fun, but I won't spend $500 for it......

Yes, that's the radio. It does have a Demco smell to it and from the information in the Ebay description it has hi/low power capabilities. There's a link in the description also stating that only 300 to 500 were made?

Several people I know run the Buddy base with a Browning R 2700 receiver. They say it does a great job. Mr. Nobody in Fullerton, CA; is one in particular. Every time I have heard him he is nasty loud. Of course he is nasty on his own but that is besides the point. Most of the ones you find are in need of repair/restoration. If you find one that is not that is the reason for the $$$$.

Thanks for all of the info fellas, now I can say I know a little about the Buddy radio. I wonder how sensitive the receive is on them and why would they put a six channel crystal receive along with a 23 channel tunable receive? These radios seem a bit strange to me.

The transmitter is 23 channel. Don't know about the rcvr but that may be the reason most folks I have heard of run the Browning R 2700 rcvr with the Buddy transmitter.

Hmmm.......I'm surprised that the Buddy transmitter will mate to a Browning. Maybe the Buddys were a spin off and really designed by Browning/Drake?

I might have been hasty on my last post. Perhaps the Buddy's coupling system's cable has to be modified to work with the 2700 receiver.

I have a 23 channel Buddy Base radio that I bought just because I'd heard so much about them. It's all original and has the all three components: transmitter, receiver, and speaker. All tubes are there and it does power up. I haven't gotten to testing it out yet but that is defintely on my list of thing I must do. I does look nice on the shelf with my other stuff!!! I wonder if it wll talk with my Demco Satelite? Old radios - I just luv em!!
