ive already got a 10k on the roof . i need something that can handle my texas star 500 when i go to appts. and use parking decks . cant have anything dragging the ceiling and my knees wont let me climb on my truck to take off the antenna with out a ladder . i can do that at home , but , i want a secondary inexpensive antenna thats small enough for the parking deck but that i can still talk on with my box .

To start out a 3' Fiber Glass is not a good bet. Either a 4' or 5' glass whip is the way to go. The 3' foot glass whips seem to have issues with SWR match. And the ears on them are so/so at best. You will be much better off with a 4' foot at least glass whip. I run a 5' glass whip with with a Texas star 350 and have good luck with it hooked to a cobra 29 I have not had good luck with any 3' fiber glass whips.

Any of the Wilson silverload antennas are ok. A company called Skipshooter used to make some really nice fiberglass whips but i dont think they are made anymore. My uncle used to run a 4' Skipshooter on his PU back in the 1980s and early to mid 1990s and it always worked well.

I run a Wilson 5' glass whip. Has a good SWR. Didn't have to tune it. It stays very stable when driving. Overall, most any 4 or 5' glass whips are good. Its best to look for the tunable tip type.
take care.

I run a Wilson 1000 on my van(full size commercial), mag mount on the roof powered by a RCI 2950 into a Texas Star 500V and I get compliments all the time on audio and distance. My Wilson serves me well. Just my two cents about antenna's.

I own a Wilson 5000 but it lost its wip and the coax long ago! LOL When i got my 5000 i changed the RG 58 U coax to mini 8 so i could run an amp.

My Wilson Magnet mount gave me headaches when it rained, or even a heavy dew. My SWR would jump up. RF issues. Decided to use the fiber glass whip. It is directional due to the mount location. But I would rather live with that then high SWR.

I never had SWR issues that i can remember. I ran an RCI 2970 DX and when i had my Wilson Silverload I had some wierd RFI at the mike issues (mic bit me on the lip) although i had less than a 1.5=1 SWR. I replaced that with the Wilson 5000 and that went away.

I was runing a Galaxy 98 V w/ a Little wil. The best I was able to get the SWR was 1.3 or so. I also had trouble with moisture getting under the magnet. This would raise H--l w/ my SWR and cause RF issues. Once it dried out things would be ok. But I gave up on running the Galaxy in the mobile. Now I use a Cobra 29 w/ a Texas star 350. Works great with my Fiber Glass whip. The 5' seems to give me the best transmit and receive. Didn't try any of the heavy duty Wilson mag mounts. They may have resolved that issue. I like my 5 footer.

thanks guys . i think im gonna try the k40 super flex . www.das-roadpro.com/k40/fiberglass.aspits rated for 1500 watts and has a 30 day money back guarantee . doesnt say it has to be a similar antenna . i certianly dont expect it to equal my 10k let alone "transmit farther and receive more clearly" . LOL "30-day money-back performance guarantee Your new K40 Tunable Whip CB Antenna must transmit farther and receive more clearly than the product it replaces or simply return it within 30 days with proof-of-purchase for a complete product credit from the authorized K40 dealer who installed it." ill probally get it next week and let yall know what i think of it after i use it for a bit .
