I think the number "151" was Turner's member number in the EIA, Electronic Industries Association. Thanks. I'm still amazed they didn't at least put a PCB ID on there. Heck, I used to do that to every board I etched out. That and a revision number.

Browning 776 mic. Same amplifier board and for that matter identical. Brown stripe (MarkIII) or earlier Orange stripe MarkIV) has one extra switch in the base for the 5V supply to pin pin 4 of the connector. The only thing this extra switch does is switch the power on to the amp board in the mic. The brown stripe will work. There is no difference in the boards themselves at all. There is a 5v zener diode that holds the voltage to 5v. No matter if you have it wired to a MarkIII etc. Or a Mark IV. The only difference is that if you have a brown stripe with a single switch the amp board will always be on.
Also the Super SideKick amp board is not the same as a 776. It is a different design all together. Different amp circuit and sound. And to clear something else up. The Turner Plus Three is a Ceramic. A Turner SSK and 776 are dynamic elements. I have a picture of a Turner Plus 3 from the factory printed CERAMIC

The boards seem identical in the 776 and the SSK. Component wise they may be different, but the layout and traces are the same. See the photos.

I will post some pictures when I get a chance. You are correct about the traces on the boards being the same. But what is on the board on the SSK board vs the 776 is quite different. (4 legged device for example MPC 4000b, and caps etc. Just try and find one of those 4000b's not easy. And don't trust many of the search eng. for that part. You will end up with something quite different. That reminds me... I did locate a supplier and they want about $20 for that part. No way!

If I can get my butt in gear I'll try and take some photos of both the SSK board and the 776 board.

That's what I hope to do. Need to show them component side up to show the difference in design.

Well, I was bored enough to take apart three microphones last night - 2 776's and 1 Super Sidekick. Attached are the photos. First photo is the amp from my 776 I use on my Mark IVA: Next is the amp from my Turner Super Sidekick I use on my RCI 2995: This is the amp from the spare 776 - it's basically the same but I wanted to show it:

More 776 Help needed.
I have 2 776s (brown strip and orange stripe) and want to wire one of them for my Mk IVA. The orange 776 (an ebay acquisition)has had the cord replaced with one that does not have the standard Browning color scheme. The internal wiring in this mike has also been modified (maybe molested is a better term). Every contact on the pressure switches has been re-soldered (poorly). I am not confident the wiring is correct. I checked the pictures provided in this thread but I can't see every connection. Is there a schematic available for this mike?
The brown stripe 776 is in better shape externally and internally. Can I steal a pressure switch from the orange stripe 776 , wire it into the Orange stripe 776 and have it work with a MK IVA? If that is possible, does anyone know how to wire it?
Thanks,
John

I don't have a schematic for the 776; I'll have to look around to see if I can locate one. What I can do is take some better photos for you of the wires in the base and connected to the preamp board and post them. Give me a day or two to get that done. You can just wire the amp without the leaf switch, or find an old Turner base mic (+3, Super Sidekick - any like that) and just 'liberate' a switch. If you do wire the amp without the switch, I'm not sure how well that would work with the preamp always on.

I took some photos last night. I tried to make them as clear as possible. The first photo shows the 2 leaf switches. Notice the red wire from the microphone (+5 volts) feeds the red wire into the pre-amp board. When the microphone isn't keyed, the red wire from the preamp gets grounded through a .001 microfarad capacitor This photo shows the pre-amp board. The black and yellow wires are the microphone element feed into the preamp. The red wire from the leaf switch provides the power (+5 volts from the radio) and the blue wire is audio out with the other black wire being audio ground. This is a close up of the leaf switches. Here is a side view of the leaf switches. You can see that the blue audio out wire is connected directly to the white audio feed wire from the radio. When the microphone is un-keyed the audio is shunted to ground. When you key the microphone, the black wire from the radio is grounded, enabling transmit. This is another close up of the leaf switches, but it also shows the ground connection. There you are. Let me know if you need any other explanation.

Thanks cbrown. Using the pictures and commentary you provided, I was able to get the orange stripe mic working this weekend between the kids soccer and football games. What a mess it was inside that mic. The pre-amp board had been worked on, the switches were wired wrong, and it looks like the mic element was tampred with. I was not happy with the audio quality so the next project is to modify the brown strip mic, which is in much better condition, to work with the Mark IVA. Now all I need is leaf switch and a little time.
Thanks again.

You can 'borrow' the leaf switch out from your other 776 temporarily.
Good luck, and if you have any problems just shout.

I just purchased a NEAR "MINT" BROWNING GOLDEN EAGLE MKIII "TODAY" that came with a NEAR MINT 776 microphone(Brown Stripe) as well.I just pulled the bottom cover on the 776 & adjusted it DOWN because it was SCREAMING LOUD even when almost WISPERING! I did NOT have any idea that it had an adjustment but my locals sure are GLAD it does so they can turn up their receivers now! }:>) Did I mention that I LOVE Craigslist where I found the BEAUTIFUL "BIG BAD BIRD"? This "BIG BAD BIRD" with the 776 set me back $75 CASH "TOTAL" & it works 100%.The seller said the receiver did NOT work & it did NOT until I put a 2 amp fuse in it when I got home & I also put a bulb in the transmitter channel selector! }:>) SWEEEEET!!!!!! Thank you JESUS!!!!!! Now if I can just find a MATCHING "BANANA" microphone for it I'll REALLY be happy! }:>)

Well I just pulled the cover on the transmitter to replace the blown meter light(have a whole box since they are the same as in the TRAM D-201)& ALL of the tubes are ORIGINALS with "BROWNING" stamped on them! This for sure a VIRGIN BIRD! It works as it should but I will have her given a complete PHYSICAL because of her age! Output power is only about 3 watts so she could use some tubes & a physical for sure but her BODY & HEALTH is VERY GOOD! ;D If someone will fill me in on how to do so I'll post a photo of my TRAM & BROWNING here?
Thanks & GOD bless, SIX-SHOOTER OT66

New mic cord, and no schematic to see where each wire goes. Would you please post the pictures again? Thank You , DD21

Photos are back up. They were removed because Google was indexing sections of the website hosting those and making the photos available to all.
