I just got a 458 off of Ebay. This thing is in super good condition and works as good as it looks. I also have another one coming in the next few days. I had a '458 back in the early 1990s and it was one of the best CB rigs i ever owned and like a fool, I sold it. Now that i have another its staying here in the shack. Its been peaked and tuned and works with no power mic at all. this thing screams. Anyone else ever own a 458 and what experiences do u have with one?

I had a 458 back in the mid 80's, and it was a great performer. I was always modifying the heck out of it. +/- 6khz clarifier, over 200 channels out of the PLL (the VCO range was the limiting factor), and endless modulation and audio shaping mods. I even put a photocell dimmer for the channel display. I also sold mine 10 years later, but I now have a Cobra 139XLR, which is basically the same radio. But I've left the Cobra basically stock except for unlocking the clarifier. Back then, for me the object was to experiment and modify. Today, the object is to preserve and restore to stock condition.

I've had one for about 16 years. Running a Turner Plus 3 on it. I have all 200 channels with no skips, a CB International filter, diode and FET receive mods, output power and slight modulation mods, clairifier mods, power supply mods and maybe others I've done but can't remember. It receives excellent and at 100% modulation is louder than my D201A.

I have owned several Cb base rigs over the years (including those awful black box rigs) and i have always had an afinity for the 858 chassis rigs. This makes my second '458 and its staying here in the shack. I sold the first one i had, and it was probably one, of if not the best, domestic 40 channel CB base rigs i have owned. I sold the first 458 back in 1996 and have regretted selling it ever since. I can hear stations on my 458 that i cannot hear with the other rigs i own. It hears more stations that are faint better than my HR 2510, madison, and my Galaxy 959. I also own a Robyn 520D and it is just as good, if not equally as good, as this 458.
