Help in making a CB Santa selection What would be the best pick for a CB for a base if you could buy it. Santa has been asking me questions on what I would want. I do have a tech ham license so this may help you guys that are up on this to make a suggestion. I don't stay up to date on stuff but use the older radios usually. Can you help with a great pick for me. PS Any options to add when buying please include. Email me with suggestion ron222@embarqmail.com Thanks Ron

If you're looking for a base station brand new with power and have a 10-11-12 meter CB slant, I would suggest the Ranger 2995DX. This rig has been updated many times over the years and is very stable in it's present form. I heard the newest ones run (8) Mosfets. I have the same version of this radio in mobile form, a 2970N2. It performs flawlessly so far. You still may find a leftover version of the 2995DX with (2) 2290's in the amp section. That has the green display as oppossed to the newest black display. I'm running the green display 2995DX on the bench now.
Several operators around here run the Galaxy DX-2547. I don't own one yet but they sound great on the air. They're about $275 less than the 2995DX partially due to the lack of a built in linear amp. They're based on the popular DX959 mobile chassis so mods abound for this rig. There have been reports of some drifting. Believe me, if I saw one heavily discounted I would snag one ;D
I for one run a few mobiles as a "Base" sometimes with a 100 amp 12VDC RV power converter. Hard to beat the new Stryker SR-955HP as a mobile/ base...60-80 watts using (4) Mosfets, super stable widebanded AM/SSB with excellent audio to boot.
If you're looking for something used without a warranty, the sky's the limit...

Tell us more about what you are looking for, too. Old tube equipment, new stuff? We'll help you spend some $$$.

If you go for the 2995DX, as far as the stocking stuffer options go, I asked Santa for the Ranger SRA2990CF cooling fan kit for the back

And if you do SSB, the 2995 is rock solid in that mode.
