I just bought a 148 off ebay. Waiting for it to show up. Hope I don't regret the purchase.

Not sure, looks to be a older one. Yes, I wanted a SSB radio that would talk, and I didn't pay import radio $. Had a Galaxy 98 VHP, big $ and lots of issues. Should be happy with this 148.

Got mine a few years back in a bulk trade deal...the meter was stuck, so I replaced it. (SWR function still works) Was my main 11 meter SSB base radio until I got my Delta Force awhile back. Now it gets used in the mobile....It's a 1989 Phillipines model, stock, except for an unlocked clarifier...and built like a tank. It's mated with an Astatic 575-M6 mike..Great Rig!

Doc and Blue, I just hope its not a DOA, a pic shows it powered up. But you never know. As for the radios operation, no worries about that that.

As long as it's nothing major, they aren't that hard to repair if you do have problems.

It has arrived, Powered it up, but I don't have a 5 pin wired at the moment. Looks ok. Only issue is the meter did't lite when I applied power. Is that because of the lack of a mic? OH, BTW, it was made in 91.

It works, and it has extra channels. But the guy that had it was rough on it. Needs some TLC.

Those radios are real good talkers. I have one here that I have not used in over 20 years. Last snow storm we had I needed to do some plowing. So I grabbed the 148 quickly wired a cigarette lighter plug to it, Grabbed my old Wilson 1000 mag mount and off I went.
Turned it on to 38lsb and the skip was rolling in. Now my radio is pretty much stock other than unlocked clarifier and it has the stock mic.
I started shouting for DX and sure enough I got a quick reply and was amazed. At that point I remembered why I never sold that radio.

I checked to see what extra channels the 148 had. Starting on 15, 26815 to 26905 on 27. Little odd. The guy that ownerd this radio was a hacker, or knew someone who was. 73's
