I have a Cobra "RoadTrip" hand held CB radio that I wanted to add extra channels to as per the instructions on CB Tricks. It's identical to the hand held Cobra HH38WX ST. The lower band 40 channels are supposed to go from 26.515-26.955 MHz and the uppers 27.415-27.855 MHz.
So I tried the conversion (which is fairly easy to do by just jumping the J14 pads on the CPU board) Unfortunately, I can’t get it to show the "U" or "L" that the instructions say will tell you if you working the extra channels nor does it go to the extra channels. I'm going to open it back up and see if the jumper didn't take. Maybe, this particular radio doesn’t have the ability to be modded? Has anyone else successfully converted the hand held Cobra HH38WX ST or "RoadTrip" for extra channels and if so, am I missing something?
After the mod when following the included instructions, you’re supposed to turn the radio on, then press "Function", then press "Scan" to enable the uppers and lowers. On the alignment instructions page (that list the extra channels) they mention to enter the “display test” by turning on the unit while holding down on the “channel up-down buttons” then tune to CB channel 6, then press the “Function” and “Light” keys. That’s supposed to yield a display of “CH1”>”CH19”>”CH22”>”CH40”> “U” band CH40> “L” band CH1. I’m not seeing the > “U” band CH40> “L” band CH1 while progressively pressing the "Light" button.

I use the RoadTrip walkie talkie for testing and finding sources of RF interference. In fact currently I have a brand new next door neighbor that’s got some old fan running or something that’s causing an ignition type noise in my receive across the 11 meter band, but is loudest around 26.615 HMz. Touchy subject to bring up with a new neighbor I’ve yet to introduce myself to yet. Sucks to have to deal with the noise but I’ll keep restrained and say hello first then go over sometime later to discuss the interference issue hopefully using the newly expanded Cobra.
