I ran the original Avanti Sigma 4 version, and it was the best performing omni that I ever had. Its characteristics were ideal for my old location where I was in a valley at 125' ASL. The newer European copies of this antenna are made with thinner aluminum tubing so they will break easier than the Avanti would. I bought mine in the early 80's and it's still going strong over at Art's. He uses it for his "cosmic scanner" as well as those rare times he decides to get on the band.

I have flown one, too. In fact, a SigmaIV, and two Vector 4000s. However, mine were all homebrewed models. They are long, 5/8 over a 1/4 wave cone. They are awesome performers. I do not know about the fragility of the production models, but would recommend owning one based on their performance.

Thanks for the replies. I've been reading some additional good reviews of this vertical antenna. Cost is around $140 US.
