I hadn't heard him on the radio for quite sometime, at least not on 13. But I didn't know enough about him to have made the connection with the news article. Hopefully no FCC employee was watching. That amplifier (fried or not) sitting on his table would have brought on a few frowns..... You can't keep a real operator down for long. I have so many radios in the collection, I'd be back the same night, unless the antenna was destroyed somehow.

Glad he's back. I lost a Mark III to lightning back in the 70's. Finally restoredit a few years ago.

Operator Ron and I were discussing getting in touch with BD to see if he needed to borrow anything to get back on the air. I'm glad BD updated us on the status of his station. I sincerely hope the FCC has better things to do than worry about a few good spirited CB operators that keep the hobby alive and run signal levels low and clean enough to not interfere with other communications. Heck we don't even swear or curse on air around here

Heck we don't even swear or curse on air around here The FCC has neither the manpower or the budget to police the bands the way they would like, so things like minor infractions tend to get overlooked. They will respond when the situation escalates above and beyond simple nuisances. "Ol' zero-five" came dangerously close to getting a visit from the feds. He was on their radar, and it's probably a good thing he left the area when he did.

The news report didn't say it, but was his antenna mounted in the tree that got struck? How did that fair? Hopefully better than our repeater antenna did....

... "Ol' zero-five" came dangerously close to getting a visit from the feds. He was on their radar, and it's probably a good thing he left the area when he did. His self destructive behavior sealed his fate, and probably will again. You know what they say about old dogs. I still have copies of the letters.

I believe he said that it did not hit the antenna directly, but hit the coax that was strung across the trunk of the tree that was split apart.
