CB folk lore would have us believing the rigs made in the Philippines during the late 80s early 90s are better, possibly because being made in the Uniden factory there. Thicker PC boards with heaver solder traces, ect.
I found it fun to hunt for the Philippines made Cobra radios. So far I found a 148, 29 and a 25. A "Philly" made 2000 would be nice but I haven't come across one yet.

R&R is close to this area. I do stop in there once and a while. I should clarify that "I haven't come across one yet- that was inexpensive enough" anyway I have a couple of 2Ks from Taiwan so I'm good for now, probably.

Generally speaking, the oldest version of any model radio is probably the best, from a parts and quality standpoint. On the other hand, the older rigs have more "miles" on them and may be ready for that looming 100,000 mile rebuild.
