Hey guys, a good friend of mine in fact he is the one that got me into 11 meter radio back in 1975 came across a Realistic TRC 48 at a yard sale last weekend. It is a 23 ch base/mobile crystal controlled radio. I never find anything radio related at yard sales up here, and the stuff I find at ham fests that I'd like to have I can't afford! I have not seen the radio yet except for the picture he emailed me. Not a radio I would go out of my way to find but this thing is mint and my friend wants to give it to me to add to my collection which isn't much anymore since I sold or gave away a lot of my good stuff when I got out of 11 meters (mistake) six years ago. He did not get a power cord with the radio so I guess I'll have to make one. Where can I get the info I need to make a power cord? Is there anyway to get Secret CB issues online? I know these are dumb questions to you guys but this dummy needs some help! When I got my ham ticket six years ago I never thought I'd miss 11 meters, boy was I wrong! Glad I kept my Mark IV, RCI 2950, and my Washington! I finally got the Y-quad on the tower last week and it's working great. My wife suggested (really she did) I put up an Omni for the local stuff and talking to her when she's out in her pickup. Sooooo I got a Hy-Gain SPT-500, the old Super-Penetrator. I replaced a Big Stick with one of these in the late 70's and was thrilled with the improvement. I have a four day weekend (I drive a school bus) because of election day so I should be able to get it up after the wind and rain Saturday and Sunday are gone. Hoping I can join the Wednesday night net using the Penetrator. Will post a review of the SPT-500 after I get it up and running. Hoping MFJ didn't change much on this great Omni when they acquired Hy-Gain...... Sorry I got long winded, just having a blast on 11 meters again. If anyone can point me in the right direction to solve my lack of power cord problem for the TRC 48 I'd be so grateful. Will post radio and antenna pics real soon. Man I love this site and miss Scott. Have a good weekend. Barry De. Bay 862

And the longer you've been involved with CB, the harder it is to leave behind. If you're lucky enough to live in the right area, there's just something about the local banter and "hair down" fun that you can't duplicate on ham radio. As for your TRC 48 issue, I couldn't find any info on CB tricks for a schematic. But they do have secret CB volumes there: www.cbtricks.com/pub/secret_cb/I also did find an on-line schematic for the TRC-48: www.angelfire.com/wv2/whiskeyvictorydx/random/trc48schematic.jpgIt includes power supply wiring, so that should help you.

Thanx so much guys, the links you shared got me where I needed to be! And yes I was in 11 meters for a while, like the mid 70's and did step away after I got my ticket. Am having a blast with it once again and thank goodness I didn't sell everything. The band has been fairly good lately and as you said there is a hard core group of locals in the tri state area that are still on the air when not covered up by dx and it's as much fun as ever. Thanks for keeping this board alive everyone!!!!

Thanks for keeping this board alive everyone!!!! Re-discovering the fun we had back in the 70's, has been rewarding in my area. Just collecting and restoring old rigs has been a blast. Good luck with the TRC 48. It was a pretty good radio back in its day.

Was great catching some of you guys on the roundup on Wednesday night! I hope to have the TRC-48 ready to go this Wednesday night and have dusted off a couple of others as well like my Teaberry Model T! Will post pics of the new antenna flying proudly on top of the tower as well as the TRC-48 assuming I can figure out how to upload them... By the way the Penetrator handles wind very well, something I had forgot. But you gotta remember that was in the late 70's and I am old now! Have a great weekend...... Capt Barry Delaware Bay 862

Capt Barry Delaware Bay 862 You were sounding surprisingly well, considering the distance. That Console II was sounding good. Maybe we'll catch you in there at another quiet, skip-free roundup.

Capt Barry Delaware Bay 862 Local conditions were great that night and I could hear you on my JC Penny 6221 40 CH AM radio Captbarry, communicating from Cecil County MD all the way up to Spring Mount Ski Area, Northern Montgomery County PA! Very Cool. Sparky out.

Hey you guys all sounded great as well. I just forgot last Wed, that's what happens when you get old! Will be checking in every Wed when the band is quiet enough. Lately the DX has been falling out fairly early in the evening but not every day. I have the SPT-500 on top of the tower so that puts the base at 64 feet and that antenna is working as well as I remember the one I had in 1978. Have a few other radios I can't wait to try on the roundup. Since it's gonna be cold this Wed I do believe I will be running tube equipment to keep warm! 73's everyone
