Last time I was at Radio Shack, they still sold neon bulbs. Hopefully Pete and I will meet up at our designated exchange zone today and I'll pass along the neon bulb I found in my parts bin last night. Hopefully that will calm down his crystal oscillator.

I hope he's buying you a cup of coffee for that bulb. Plus meeting you halfway now that's a Good buddy 10-4.

We often do this when we want to exchange stuff. I have to wonder if the gas station workers wonder if we're dealing drugs......

It's just the sad truth of running vintage gear, but it can be rewarding after it's all done and that's a plus in my book!

It's just the sad truth of running vintage gear, but it can be rewarding after it's all done and that's a plus in my book! Yea, owning vintage radio gear is like owning a vintage car. Much less reliable than something made in the last few years, but has far more soul and personality. But when you have components that are over 40 years old, especially those stressed by current and heat, stuff will fail. For my own radios, I tend to replace the stuff that failed or is ready to, but I don't touch the parts that are (for the moment) still working. I wouldn't recommend that approach for a customer who wanted the 100,000 mile overhaul. But for me, it's cheaper in the short term. But it also opens the door to future reliability issues. But I enjoy working on the stuff, so it's not a really big deal.

Demco Electronics radios seem to be in short supply ever look on EBay you be lucky to see one up for sale. And parts such as knobs, faceplates or covers, meters are not existent. Browning eagle parts are easier now though the internet so restoring is not as hard. Maybe the early Browning's would be tuff but Mk III's and IV's parts are available.

Yea, Browning and Tram are the biggest collectables. Demco is not as widely known, so there is less demand, and fewer parts available. But it also means that when they do go up for sale, they tend to go for big money because they are more scarce.

I do have the radio tuned up to a reasonable state, but not entirely happy as it sit has spurious emissions. Info plan to take it out for a run tonight and maybe work on it some more tomorrow. Right Now I just want to drink beer and play radio as the wife is sking in the Poconeos. On another note that Eico 712 I got from Ron is working FB. I just may use that on the round up as it seems to be loud and receives well. County Wide Radio LLC W

But 422 got real icy near Limerick and cars were spinning out. Of course there were still a few who, for whatever reason, couldn't understand that people slowing down to a crawl were doing so because it was icy, and tried to zig-zag between them, and spun out into the ditch. We never did have practice. The bridges into NJ were closed as was the turnpike. A nasty pile-up on the Surekill Distressway. Yes, this was a good day to stay inside and watch football.

I wonder how SpitFire Countywide made out with his Demco satellite repair. I have a neon bulb on the bottom my Browning MkIII am transmitter on one of the tubes as well.

Things are better but there are still some issues. Things are moving forward on the Demco. It is use able but I think there is more tuning/repair to be done. The crystal oscillator is not very stable. Each stage of tuning effects the previous stage and that should not be. I had planned to check on interstage coupling caps to see if any were bad. However the blizzard of 2015 kind of ate up my time. Shame too as it turned out to be only 2-3" of snow not worthy of my Husqvarna 9 HP 27" snowblower. Spitfire 441 County Wide Radio LLC

We had some local discussion the other night as to what actually is a "Super" Satellite as opposed to a Satellite "Deluxe" I noticed that the photos on the interweb show the "Super" Satellite with the words "Super" on the front under the dial of the transmitter having an orange meter without the red slide switch of the "Deluxe". The "Super" Satellite receiver has a green meter opposed to a white one on the "Deluxe". Maybe someone else can chime-in as the two versions are very similar in construction but may use different schematics? Here some comparison photos: www.qsl.net/kd4nue/demstak.htm

As far as Super and Deluxe, a SUPER Satellite has a front microphone jack. And two different meter colors Red and Green. The Deluxe has neither and no front microphone jack and white background meters. I had a Demco Deluxe years ago that was given to me that was in bad shape. I could kick myself in butt for trashing the set. I have the knobs I think still. All I know if you have a SUPER Satellite your going to know it. Plus it says Super right on the front plate.

That was the reason for the discussion. It seems that it's not quite so cut and dry as what you've described. There seems to have been an intermediary "Super" model made in-between the "Deluxe" and the later model Super. The version that Pete has differs schematically from a Deluxe model, but does not have the "Super" monicker on the front bezel or the Red/Green" meters. And since the Deluxe/Super had a production run of nearly 10 years, there was bound to be some level of revision made along the way. I would be curious to find the complete story on Demco's production history.

Dave now I ready feel bad for trashing that Demco Deluxe cause it could have been a SUPER and I didn't even know it. Dang it!
