Thought you guys mite be on a roll this month. Personally, I prefer a Danish to a roll, but that's just me..... It's tough to come up with themes for CRR. We've done "radio brand" themes, but not everyone has an example of every brand. But a majority should. Maybe it's time for a mic theme. We've done "Stock mic night", maybe we'll do "Turner mic night", since I think most of us have at least one Turner mic.

We have a guy down my way a little challenged. Starts off with breaker then give him the break and the comeback is how you doing. Sad to say not much of a conversationist, so I stoped answering that breaker and he is persistent till he gets one too. I think I've heard that guy when I'm in Delaware county near Chester on Ch 19. Haven't heard in him a while though. I call him "Carlton your door man" because he sounds monotone like the apartment door man in the classic Marry Tyler Moore/ Rhoda TV show: www.hark.com/clips/crqpvfszmk-this-is-carlton

Hybrid night was a success I would say.
I ran a Gemtronix GTX 5000 with a desk mic. The modulation was a bit weak so I had to keep an eye on the flat topping. Overall it seemed to work just fine slightly of freq. at 27.1147 MHz. It's a nice looking radio based on the common hybrid tube/solid state PLL Panasonic chassis with 40 CH digital readout and solid billet aluminum knobs.
Other similar radios I have are the 40 CH Teaberry Model T Base Station and the great looking Colt Midnight Special.
I recommend running a small fan on top of these radios due to the heat they generate. As mention on CRR, I use a small 12 VDC 2" block fan that is powered by a used 9 VDC battery left over from my desk mics. The small fan is relatively quiet especially when running on 6-7 volts that are typically left in the old 9 volt batteries. Just cut the wires short on the fan so they can just push against the battery next to it.

That's ok if it was off frequency a little that's why they put the delta tune in them radio's.

I'm gonna try to make it. I may in late. Have to go fetch the pick up truck that's in Willow Grove due to the big truck had a flat rear tire and the PO-PO said no-go... Out-O-Service, but at least he didn't fine me. I had all my paperwork ducks in row.
Skeeter set me up with a 22.5 x 11 truck tire and I got it mounted up on a rim. Took a 20 ton jack and a breaker bar to the site and changed that sucker myself! Screw that $800 road side stuff. Super Duper Thank You Skeeter!!!

And I know the feeling I got a flat in Delaware over Wilmington on 95 on a bridge in the rain. With my daughter in the car asleep and using a scissor jack and some luck without getting hit by oncoming traffic. Was able to change the tire on the mini van.

Hey don't forget Classic Radio Roundup Night! Don't know if their is a theme but who cares. Still great no matter what theme or no theme! No theme for the roundup. I figured we'd take a break from that, or we'll end up using them all up. Plus with the nicer weather coming into play ('bout time!), I figured turnout would be light. It was another noisy night with south of the border nonsense making it less than favorable. I also feel bad that we pissed Tim off, but he has to realize that if it's noisy and he's trying to run a barefoot radio, he's not going to be heard, quick keys or not. Also Pete lost the video gate, which pissed him off and he disappeared after that. And here's another first - I fell asleep! It was about 10:10 and Night Train and a few other guys were talking, and I started feeling heavy headed. The next thing I know, I snap awake and it's almost 11:00! I've gotten drowsy before, but I've never fallen completely asleep sitting in front of the radio.... Good thing I didn't hit the key.

Well I don't know who Tim is but being pissed isn't fun, so sorry Tim better days are coming! Well down my way I poured all the fun into it had in me, talking about Jake brakes on Big Trucks. And other things like the crazy guy I am sad but true. Well maybe sometime soon I can mobile night up your way and I'll bring pocket full of sunshine with me. Like we are all in the Merry Land that we always dream off. 10-4!

Ah Ha! they all blamed me for saying it was "Classic Radio Roundup After Hours" and they said I scared you away because I reminded you that it was after 10PM As far as what Tim said I understand he was venting, but with children near the radio rooms at times, there was no need to curse about it IMO. It was so noisy that I can't believe some folks even heard me in the mobile (all be it with the Stryker 497 and a Wilson 1K on the roof) I also can't believe Tim doesn't have a box or maybe he does??? I'll ask him next time I hear him in there. I did donate a 320 watt meanwell power supply that he said failed shortly there after. I can definitely help him out with a suitable power supply to run a box if he needs one. Heck I gave Ken from Harleysville a 40 amp unit and he doesn't even use it. Can I "Indian Give" it back Excalibur just had Ron's old GB box for sale on Craigs list. For some reason I thought Tim had it, oh well I'm sure he's had a few different boxes over the years. I got on air a little later on the base station and things settles down as the noise dropped. On a side note, Block Head (Block Buster as Train calls him) said he set up a gate so I'm wondering if he got it worked out.

Yeah did Bagger say the gate was MIA, sounds like you guys had a fun night with skip, cursing, people venting out and people falling asleep. And that wasn't even Late Night Classic Radio Roundup! Wow see what I missed and my Nexus 7 was acting up to listen to SPEW network.

I had to bring up that story you guys were telling about Zero 5's Russian military linear that gave him headaches every time he ran it. And it being so damn hot in the room he had the thing in and him sitting in a chair sweating to death running the thing.Pete had me cracking up with his impersonation of Zero 5, saying I think this thing is giving me cancer! And that Barbie girl song!

He eventually pulled that tube out and replaced it with a 3-500z. This is the amp that he was running when this video was taken:

I got on air a little later on the base station and things settles down as the noise dropped. On a side note, Block Head (Block Buster as Train calls him) said he set up a gate so I'm wondering if he got it worked out. Tim used to have an amp, but I think he may have sold it, so the only way he can put out a "big" signal now is if he runs that Kenwood TS-430. But that radio has a problem, The PLL sometimes does not lock when he shifts into transmit, and you'll hear this motorboat-y sounding noise and wonder what it is. But it's Tim trying to talk. I don't think he realizes that the radio does that, and he thinks we're ignoring or quick-keying over him. As much as I'd like to be able to run strictly barefoot, it's just not practical considering the wide spacing between all of our group, especially with the F-layer crud that's hanging in there later since the days are getting longer. There is over 20 air miles between Tim and I. Back in the day, that would be a DX contact for my barefoot station, as it was rare that we talked further than 5 or 6 miles out on a regular basis. So the problem isn't with people running amps, it's those who don't and get lost in the noise. Oh, and on the "Block Buster/Block Head" thing, I always thought that "Block Buster" was his real handle and that "Block Head" was the name given in jest. So you're telling me it's the other way around? Wow, learn something new every day....... Hope he gets a gate setup. It would be nice to have a backup. If it weren't such a pain for me to do it (I have an HD camcorder, which saves in huge files that take over an hour to upload, even if I lower the quality), I'd set mine up on the tripod. I did make the one gate with my Browning.

Gene got most of his stuff off of E-Bay. Sometimes they were good, sometimes not, like the gassy tube he deliberately blew up......
