I hoping to make the gate this week but sadly there was no gate to be found dang it! I was running full out till I had someone dropping a key on me. Well at least trying! I heard him in the beginning laughing like Jabba the hut! Are theme was Whip it out Wednesday I think it was whatever you ready too roll on the air! Radio wise meaning! But after shutting down Big Boy Stonewall I ran the Motorola and SBE. The legal limit radios lol.

Well, last night's roundup was lightly attended. I suspect the nasty thunderstorms (in February!) kept many people away. But for those of us who weathered the storm, the conditions were pretty quiet. Pete had a Radio DJ gig and said that he'd most likely be late, but his lateness ended up morphing into a complete no-show. That also means no video gate.... Well not entirely. I did manage to experiment with my tablet and took about a minute or two of the event. But until I find a stand or some other means to hold it, I won't be doing much in the way of 'gating. I can't sit there for 2 hours holding the thing in hand. The theme last night was "newest classic", and I ran my Cobra 2000. View AttachmentWhat are two extra holes for ventilation lol, I am assuming that it had extra channels installed with two switches. Other than that it is a great looking radio! Maybe some silver painted plugs would look ok. Grrrrrr....... Nothing I hate more than someone marring the finish of an otherwise nice looking radio in order to mount switches for "extras". There are much better ways of accomplishing this other than drilling holes in the front panel. When I picked up this poor Cobra, it was in sad shape. Besides the 10V blues and other issues that prevented it from working, it was modded up the wazoo with extra channels, along with a roger-beep board installed. I ripped all of that junk out and restored it to nearly factory stock (although I left the clarifier "open"). But the holes remain. Someday I want to get new silk screening for it which will cover up the holes and make everything look like new again.....

It always brings a tear to my eye when I see radio's torn apart like that it's sad. I'm like that Indian chief in the commercial with a tear coming down his face because he sees all the trash all over his great land, God I'm getting old.

I ran my recently restored to working condition Courier Centurion 40D. It sounded pretty good. I found that the previous owner did an audio mod and added a switch in the back for more lower end. It needs a set of factory knobs to be brought back to a full stock appearance. I did hear other operators in the distance. Unfortunately I missed a bit of the show due to a power outage caused by the storm. I got back on the air via an Optima Yellow top battery.

Any mention of a theme for the first half of tonight's show? 3 Knob Radio? Once again I waited too long to promote this. So my bad! Yes tonight's CRR theme will be 3-knob radios. Mobile or base, it doesn't matter as long as they are minimal in features. Bonus points if you actually have a less than 3 knob radio.

Last night's (3/2/2016) radio candidates: Midland 13-862B. My neighborhood "nemesis" "Uncle Albert" AKA "Puddin' Head" ran a rig like this, which he got on sale for $89.95 from Henshaw's in 1974. Midland 13-885. My first SSB base. It survived a lightning strike and being submerged in a flood.... And still works.

That what I like about radios from that era. Reminds me of a Pioneer or Marantz stereo. People in the 70's were in love with woodgrain, and I still love it......

I think we're going to take a break from themes this week for CRR. Anything goes (as long as it's a classic)

I like how the meter looks like one on a 70's reel to reel tape deck.

Last night's (3/16) Roundup was fun. Not as crazy crowded, so a little funnin' around was the theme of the night. I ran my Hy-Gain 623 for the first 1.5 hours, and then finished up with a little HiFi courtesy of my modified Galaxy:

The Galaxy 2547dx ? Well........ Considering that I'm usually only on the radio when I'm out in the mobile or on Wednesday nights, what I run on the roundup is my "regular" radio for that night. Although, if I do happen to get a rare free night, I probably will opt for the HiFi Galaxy, although the receiver noise tends to be a bit of a turnoff. In that case, I'll grab one of my classics, since I always enjoy running those.

Celebrating Pearce Simpson theme night, here's 3/23's CRR candidate: View Attachment Pearce Simpson had some nice looking bases in the mid 1970s. I always liked the looks of the Pearce Simpson Bearcat 23c and the Pearce Simpson Super Lynx. Unfortunately the Bearcat 23c was mostly a big pretty box of air. I've never looked inside the Super Lynx. Pearce Simpson Super Lynx Night Ranger
