Well I was running the Hygain 8 late night and was able to almost hear Tickle and Spitfire so that was a good sign. Hopefully if I can get my beam back up I can talk live in person with you guys. Without relying on a 10-5 or Spew relay. Waiting for the gate to pop up on here or YouTube to check out the action. It was lite last night on Delaware Country Roundup last night 3 of us were in there. All Classic radios were run so that was a good thing. I know it sometimes can be overwhelming with the word getting out about you guys doing the Classic radio thing. Which is exciting for people like me that love old radio gear. And the channel gets taken over by new people check in's and at the same time your thinking what a Monster I have created. But in hindsight think what we all loved about CB radio in the first place your five minutes to shine in a crazy busy channel. Yea, I have mixed emotions about the whole thing. On one hand, I'm surprised that it's taken this long (We've been doing CRR since 2008) to catch on, but I'm also proud that I was a part of something that seems to have appeal beyond just the handful of locals we started out with. Looks like a good deal of people would like to turn the hands of time back about 40 years and return to how CB radio was back then. Yes, it's also frustrating for me when there are so many breakers in there. Since I only get one night a week to play CB radio, I have a week's worth of topics that I'd like to opine on, as well as offering up technical advice on the various projects that are usually in the works by someone in the group. It's tough to settle into deep discussion mode when there are so many interruptions. And when I can't hear most of them, it's even more frustrating. But on the bright side, when a whole bunch of people are in there that I can't hear, it gives me a chance to rip into a radio, or some other piece of equipment, and make an adjustment or two while I'm taking a standby. Well one reason is I didn't hear about the whole thing going on till like late 2013 from a friend. And I found one of Spitfire's video gates on YouTube after I was trying to find a Demco Super Satelite in action. So YouTube did promote it I have to say that for sure. And also you have a good group of people involved so that makes it nice. I think I'm in the same boat with you Sandbagger I can't hear most of the people up your way. And probably won't hear everything going on your end without Spew or the video gates. I use to hate getting ragged on about running older gear. Guys would be saying what are you running that old junk for anyway! And they later find out that they can't talk no further or hear any better than me anyway. Sometimes because it's new don't always mean it's better.

Sometimes because it's new don't always mean it's better. I think you might be on to something. The video gates are a fairly recent thing. They've only been happening for the last 3 years or so, so a lot of people scan YouTube for CB related stuff and stumble onto the gates and take it from there. Spew Radio has also elevated our profile, as has this forum. A lot of our skip contacts look for us based on what they've found on the internet. Yea, some of the local "all knobs to the right" crew would laugh and call our classic rigs "Jake's Flea Market Junk", and such. But the joke's on them. Most of the older premium rigs like the Brownings, Trams, Sonars and the like have receivers that will blow the socks off of the latest crop of Pacific Rim junk that they sell nowadays. And the audio richness that can only be had with a tube rig, is not something that can be duplicated no matter how much "swing" they get out of those newer radios. Yes, the newer rigs might be a bit louder (and splatter more in the process), but overall audio QUALITY is far better with a properly restored and setup premium vintage radio.

It's 5/11/2016, and time for another CRR. I haven't had much time (or input from anyone) to think about a specific theme, so we'll just "run what we brung". I'm not sure what I'll put up on the table tonight. I might run my Lafayette Telsat SSB-50, since that hasn't been out of the closet for a while.

Myself, I'm going with Tram D201A this time! Hopefully we will have a good turnout for tonight. It has been lite lately here in Delaware country CRR. We will have to see how it works out. Hope Sweaty Maria isn't in there tonight.

Hope Sweaty Maria isn't in there tonight. It's getting to be that time of the year when the daylight lasts longer and the weather (usually) improves. That usually means that a lot of radio people will get wrapped up with outdoor activities, and their radio participation will drop off. The longer days also mean that the skip that brings us Sweaty Maria, and her band of drug smuggling mariachi's, will hang in there a bit longer. But it is also the time of the year when the E-Layer skip starts to pick up. So maybe we'll hear Night Ranger, or the boys in the midwest, like Doc Hammer, FIXR, Mr. Murphy and that crew.

And would be nice to hear them guys in there I did talk to Fixr one time before. As well Night Ranger on the channel. Well we will have to see what the season brings. I know if I don't hear Spitfire on Thursday night soon he is going to give up completely lol! I was scanning the band and on 2720.00mhz to hear what I thought was morse code but since I don't know how to interpreted it I was trying to find my amateur operator friend on Ch15 that is so he could identify what it was. But no luck, it probably was drug dealers using Morse code in Mexico.

It sometimes sounds like rapid beeping. I wonder if that's what you are hearing. If you have network stuff in your house, pull the plug while listening to the "code" and see if it disappears.

Yeah going to try that and see it didn't sound like a data transmission. It sounded more like someone with poor morse code skills than anything. Because I have heard it on the sideband channels before ,it mite be someone practicing with a friend.

Well, May 11th's roundup was a window into what we'll probably encounter for the next few weeks. Varying intensity E-Skip was present for most of the first hour or so. The conditions didn't seem to remain stable enough to make more than a quick contact. Hopefully it'll become more stable as the time progresses. As it was, we did have some shoutouts from the midwest area, which should show up on Pete's videogate, once he posts it. Of course, the downside to the increased noise from skipland, is that locals had a tougher time being heard through it all. The radio I ran during the first hour and a half:

And before you know it, another CRR is looming large in front of us. Sporadic-E skip promises to be in there at some level, so maybe we'll hear some of our non-local CRR fans in there tonight.
Not sure what I'm going to run tonight. It's going to be in the mid 80's today, so that means my radio room will be on the warm side, so I'll probably avoid tube radios tonight. It might be time for the Cobra 135, since Pete is planning on running his Cobra (the Bus) 98. So that might make it a de-facto Cobra themed night.

Wow, it looks like I completely blew the call for last night's CRR. The sporadic-E skip never showed up, and the band was pretty quiet. We also had a pretty light turnout. On the bright side, we met a new, old time operator, although he has some work to do to get his antenna system squared away. It ended up being an unofficial Cobra themed night, with Sparky running a Cobra 25, Pete had his Cobra 98 (the bus), which looks to need a bit of work too. I ran a Cobra 135:

If you hear "Crazy Man/116" or "Dirty Diaper/21" coming in on channel 12 then you have propagation to my area. "Dirty Diaper/21" should be the strongest signal if he is wound up. Night Ranger

CRR for the 1st of June 2016 should be interesting. Pete's new HF rig means that the link for Doc Hammer and Hy-Tower has been restored, so we'll look forward to saying hello to those guys again. The unpredictable nature of the E-Skip means that it may or may not be in there as well. The theme is pretty much an informal one. But rumor has it that at least 2 people will be running Regency radios so I may dig out my ailing Formula 23, as that is my only (currently working) Regency radio. We'll have to see as the time approaches.

Had the privilege of speaking to Hy-Tower on Spitfire's OTA set up last night. Hope it stays stable for them and we get to say hello again.
I'm not sure if my Regency Imperial is working. One way to find out...plug it in baby!

A very lively CRR was enjoyed on 6/1. Several new or returning op's have thrown together a radio station and joined in the fray. I'm not sure if this is purely a coincidental thing, or whether people have stumbled across this forum, websites, videogates and are influenced by them to "get back into it". Whatever the case, the ranks are swelling, which is a good thing, especially when summertime is traditionally a time where other competing activities pull people away from the radio. I want to acknowledge Slammin' Sam, Dangerous Dan, Ranger Rick, Security, Byte Buster, and Grease Monkey for joining the ranks. It was also great to hear "Doc" Hammer and Hy-Tower once again connecting into the area via the internet and Pete's new Yaesu. Preliminary results seem to indicate that the Yaesu has better AM audio than the old Kenwood (RIP ). The skip conditions were weak at beast last night, but Sparky claims to have heard Night Ranger in there for a split second. The informal theme last night was Regency. So in keeping with the theme, I ran my slightly ill (in the receiver) Formula 23:

Yes, very busy CRR. I had way too much fun running a old Regency Imperial with the Regency stock mic. Since it only keys at 1.5 watts reduced carrier, it took a few combinations to get it to play well with the other stuff
