Anyone in the United States or Canada who listened to 38 LSB over the past several years has heard "Art - 4444" (forty-four forty-four) in California broadcasting around noon-time EST/EDT on channel 38 LSB. He regularly commented that he was running a "35 dollar Obama radio". Art passed away a few days ago from a brain aneurysm. I had noticed that his voice sounded tired over the past month or so. He was such a daily skip regular heard on the East Coast of the United States that I referred to him as the California DX Beacon for 38 LSB. I could always count on hearing him on my mobile during my lunch break at work. He could also be regularly heard singing small song clips on the air. He was fairly repetitive, but he was always friendly no matter who tried to agitate him. He will be missed. R.I.P. Art.

Rest in peace, and my condolences to his family.

I had a short OTA ID contact with him on 38 LSB years ago, that was nice.
Since then, I became more aware of the constant jamming of 38 LSB by many unscrupulous operators.
Not sure where I would categorize his place there, but it was probably somewhere in the middle, if not more leaning towards the jammer side of things. I'm probably not alone in my observation, but on the other side, its sad to hear about another silent key. He always had a loud clean signal that's for sure.

He just enjoyed talking. Generally he was only in there from about 11:00 a.m. until about 12:30 p.m. EST/EDT. Unfortunately there are some other problem jammers on 38 LSB. Blue Waffle and Phillip Heath (W8XLR) in Madison, Ohio are particularly bad. There is also someone out west that regularly plays YouTube videogates on 38 LSB. There is also a jammer in Florida I cannot hear, but I hear people complaining about him. Many of the 38 LSB regulars have moved to 27.425 LSB due to the jammers. Night Ranger

Would said vidiogates be of our CRR or just random YouTube stuff? Just curious. 441

I never hear anything there anyway unless I turn the antenna around. I have heard the stories of knuckleheads jamming, but I've never heard any of them myself.

In the fall and early winter Europe comes booming in on 38 LSB in the mornings. Now that sideband is legal in the U.K. it will probably only become more pronounced. There are some good people on 38 LSB. I like the fact that every time I move or drive around the country I can still talk to many of the same people on 38 LSB. Night Ranger

That would make sense, a jammer using a recording to make someone else sound as if they were a jammer, when they're not I am thankful and feel very fortunate that things appear to have settled down in our local listening area. I got in just as the others faded out, but, and its a very BIG BUT, if things take a turn, I am prepared to soldier on as long as we stay "on-grid" with our 200 amp 240 VAC supply
