I still remember the guy that played the "worldwide-worldwide" sound clip over and over on channel 21. I was sooooooo glad when you moved to channel 13. Besides, I doubt he liked me very much after I ran him off the channel from 600 to 700 miles away with my two 3-500z's and my lazy H antenna. Night Ranger Amazing what 2 glass tubes can do, isn't it?

All knobs to the right was a common theme on channel 21, and many "modern" CB operators. Thankfully, that's not the case on Channel 13 these days...... Night Ranger The "worldwide" sound clip was part of a "lockdown" radio that used to get planted in the middle of French Creek state park at about a 900' elevation, for the purpose of jamming those who were not fans of the Chester County group. Ironically, a fire in the park a couple of years ago, destroyed the antenna and feedline that they used. But I do remember that time when you took out Cousin Brucie when the skip was running strong to your neck of the woods. Ol' Zero-Five would have given you the thumbs up for that feat......

Yep, and I think I heard him say he had a 6 or 8 pill at the time as well. Still I was proud of my home made Lazy H wire antenna. Night Ranger

Don't worry, you're not missing all that much. Jo-Gunn is an antenna manufacturer, who is best known for their beams. Many less knowledgeable operators are easily duped by JG's inflated specs, including a dubious "Audio Gain" claim (How you get audio gain from a passive antenna is a new one on me). To their credit, they are build well, and will withstand the elements (no pun intended) better than some other brands. But it's because of their (inflated) gain claims, that so many "all knobs to the right" types swear by them. They think they will "put out better" and be "louder" if they run a Jo-Gunn over another antenna brand, like say, Maco. But reality is what it is. 3 elements is 3 elements. 7 elements is 7 elements. The differences in gain are not really measurable. Evidently an Imax can take quite a bit of power. I've known a few people who have run over a KW PEP into it.

Here's another nearly hour long 10 year anniversary gem from the annals of Ol' Zero-Five and the gang on channel 21. Stations heard were Wizzman (Gene's biggest Antagonist), Number 8, 206, Wally-Wally, Number 7, Brain Damage and a very much in the grass Spitfire toward the end: 04/14/2006

Oh Man! Well I guess that's where that saying came from (Going to the Pump House) came from hmmm! Well, in Pete's defense, he was forced to be in grasser mode in this clip due to TVI he was causing to his wife's TV. This was back before he put up a ground plane 300' up the hill from his house, which kept the RF interference at bay. He was pumped up on the earlier clips where he was participating. I have to also comment on my station situation at the time. In a lesson on the differences in antennas and how their radiation angle affects both your transmit and receive. In early 2006, I was still running a 102" whip mounted to my rain gutter. At that time, Pete and Gene were pretty much equal in signal. But when I changed to a different antenna setup later, Gene's signal seemed to increase, while Pete's did not. It's strange hoe the type of antenna you run is as important as how high you mount it.

It is quite amazing how your spouse has control over your radio set up! Either they don't like CB radio or how interferes with something they're doing or watching or just the look of it lol. Just like you said Genes wife did not like his big antenna on the roof, and he had to remove it. But blamed it on the performance of it. Not saying sometimes they are alittle right about stuff, like a 30ft Yagi antenna on your house and it's only 24ft wide lol! Now that's what I call turning the house!

I had an old girlfriend try to kick my cute little beagle out of the house and move her three kids in (not mine). I warned her not to try to get between me and that beagle. She did not listen. <pat,pat,pat>....<hand lick>....Nice puppy. A musician and CB friend called "Clover Redman" had a girlfriend get jealous of the amount of time he spent playing his acoustic guitar. Finally she grabbed it and smashed it in to pieces on the floor. When he saw what she had done he lost it. He said somewhere down at the police station there is a picture of his busted guitar and a picture of her face with a black eye and a swollen lip. Women! Night Ranger

I will reluctantly admit that my better half does not fully "comprehend" the radio hobby either and seems to cohabitate under protest at times Woman are funny creatures. My wife and I have plenty in common. When we first met there were many things that clicked. She had a sports car, a motorcycle and a big old Chevy 4X4 pickup. In that pick up was a Realistic CB SSB (forget the model) I was floored. While dating she went and got her Amatuer licence, Tech plus with 5 wpm CW no less. I bought her a Kenwood TS 530 so we could communicate when unable to meet on a particular day. She was very tolerant of my antennas when I moved into her house. I was into VHF/UHF weak signal. I had HF antennas and a CB antenna and yagi's for 6 meters thru 1296 mHz. Fast forward to our home we bought together, NO tower absolutely NOT. I told her it would be up the hill and out of sight of the house. NO WAY, NO tower. OK you'll have to live with antennas on the house. That didn't fly to well either. So I am stuck with wires in the trees, they hide well. I also put my Mosely tri-bander on my shed (it's not on the house )and it's my shed. I have my co-phased Imax 2000's on the SIDE of the house,( I still can't belive I got away with that!) they would interfere with our previous TV. Solution was get an antenna away from the house. I had lots of hardline left over from my weak signal days and ran that up the hill 300' from the house where I wanted the tower. I cut a tree at 30' ( highest I can get with a ladder) and mounted a groundplane there. No more interference at any power level! She still bugs me (although less, I think she has come to accept the existing antennas) about antennas. When she says those antennas are ugly, I say TOWER up the hill, and she gives up.

I'll never forget the immortal words of Al Bundy on the subject of extramarital affairs: "Why go out for milk when you have a cow at home?" My favorite "Married With Children" marriage quote came from Kelly Bundy. Kelly went to her class reunion and saw a former geeky classmate who had grown up to become an attractive multimillionaire owner of a computer software company. She looked at him longingly and said; "He's the ex-husband of my dreams". Night Ranger

I'm lucky, my wife has never given me a hard time about my radio hobby, not even when I put up the Maco V58 after running an Antron 99 for years. Actually, the size of the Maco on my little house bothered me more than it did her. No, if I want to disappear and jaw on the radio a while it's never an issue. Of course when it's time for me to wrap it up she isn't shy about telling me.

Another anniversary date has been hit today. On this day 6 years ago (wow, I can't believe it's been that long!), Ol' Zero-Five hit the skids for the first time and had the police and EMS dispatched to his house resulting in a few day stint in the local psych ward. Things never got better for him after that point.

You should upload that to a site we can link to...... And I still can't find any recent info on Gene's whereabouts or condition. I finally got a chance to ask Two Watt if he's talked to him, and he hasn't. His last info isn't much more than what I already knew.

Sandbagger said " Most of the quotes that we repeat like "If I can't talk skip, I'm gonna drop the maul alllll day long" was in response to one of his feuds with Wizz.." And que the Barbie Girl song that he played OTA to lock it down... See the pieces falling into place? It would be nice if Spitfire put that audio clip where I could get a good listen to it to determine what 0-5 was actually playing.
Some iPhones can discern what song is playing via an app if you ask it to.
