Nice CRR last night. I ran a Clear Channel Corporation Ranger AR-3500 transceiver for the first half. It worked and sounded pretty decent It's the dual final 30 watt model. For the second half I used a Stryker SR-497HPC rig. I just aligned the transmit on the bench after breaking the warranty seal. Oh no! Actually I was able to just lift the seal 1/2 way without damaging it after using a heat gun, haha. Much to my surprise it had an Advanced Semiconductor Inc. 2sc2290 pill in it... not a Toshiba. Not sure if they are as good as the Toshibas? Haven't heard anything bad about the ASI's. Looks like they ceased production of them a while ago as well. www.allpartsdata.com/show_allpartsdatasheet.php?status=true

Yea, the roundup was fairly decent, with the usual cast of characters in attendance. Big shout-out to Renegade from the Delco crew for spending a little time making some noise up our way. Pete was absent again (Enjoying the sunny weather in Florida), so no videogate. I was running a Cobra 135 for the first half, and later switched to the HiFi Galaxy. I was also working on getting the Spew Radio computer back up and running, and I actually have two working laptops that could carry the load. The question will be which one? I was also playing around with jacking in the output of the computer to the EQ on the Galaxy and seeing how clean I could play audio clips. Looks pretty good, but I think I'll need some sort of mixer setup to do it right. But that's a project for another night......

Well, as luck would have it (or maybe just another nod to the Murphy madness), one of my daughter's softball games was pushed back to 7:00 tonight, which means I will be very late to the Roundup (4/05). I'll keep Spew Radio up for those that want to listen in, and Pete says that he should be there, so maybe we'll have a videogate for this week.

I definitely shouted for ya Sandbagger. More than once during the second half of the show and a few more times right around 10pm Turn out was pretty good actually with our presence even graced by the Knight Train early on. I first tried an old untested Browning Eagle R27 S23 pair that I've had for a few years and thru caution to the wind. Plugged them in to see if they worked without the variac, oh no. They did come to life but man the switches and pots were way dirty. The receive audio was too crackly so I enlisted a similar set I restored previously to run. Audio comments from listeners were good with this second set. I do need a volume type knob for the first set so if anyone has an extra to spare off a scrap set I'd really appreciate it.

I listened to the gate. I have to say that your "birds" sounded great except for that weak sounding extra long "ping". Sounded fake, and not Browning like. Of course the "fake-ness" might have been exacerbated by the internet link bandwidth limitations.

Of course the "fake-ness" might have been exacerbated by the internet link bandwidth limitations. Between having to squelch the receiver and using the RF gain to keep feedback out of the audio feed going to the computer...then Skype's "auto" setting for the mic, I'm surprised any of the ping gets there at all. Part of the "extra long" ping might have been feedback from the receiver (Console II)..My birds don't have a long ping..and it might be time for a new ping cap...The one thats in there has been there since I got that Mark II receiver, about 6 or 7 years ago.

Wow, big turn out for CRR 5/3/17. The Cobra 138 XLR did it's thing. Interesting that a few locals decided to ditch to another channel. Was it something we said ??

Hi all,
New guy here. I'd heard of the CRR years ago when I came across Grumpy's forum and had no idea if you guys were still getting on the air. Joined in for the first time last Wednesday and glad to see the activity! I was going from Collegeville back home to South Jersey and running (not a classic) an RCI. Now I'm inspired to clean up a few of the oldies and get 'em back on the air. Work takes me in to PA every couple of weeks, so listen for Ironman / NJ907. I read some discussion of an SSB group and wonder if that still happens. Thanks!

If you listen to the videogates, you'll probably hear yourself. Most of our group are not all that far from Collegeville, and we have been known to work a few stations on the Jersey side of the river when the conditions are right. The Delaware County annex of the CRR group holds a SSB roundup on Thursday nights on channel 16 LSB.
