There is no doubt we need more folk of young and old on the radio. With that said, let me tell you what I do... i get my kids on the radio as often as possible ! My youngest on my lap,I'll shout for "ranger-one" or "handyman" and let them know my kids are on the air.those guys get my kids talkin and laughin! Then their kids or grand kids get on, its great. My oldest use the mobiles, girls and boys.i have five. At work, the young bucks all have pick- up trucks and i got one guy to try it out by givin him an old uniden 510xl,good radio, now hes got his buddies to get cb's. I ran an ad, which still runs now, in couple of local papers, it reads;wanted vintage radio equip....it ends with; "if your interested in talking on cb radio please call!" It gets interest. Many people are cbers from way back and would love to try it again but don't even know cb's are still made ! I am the staff arborist for a company that cares for people with autism and own many acres of ny. State forest and farm land.well you should see the faces on these kids and adults first time they try out my walkie talkie! Im hoping to help them start a walkie talkie program for people with spectrum related illness. There's an older gent in town who has been an important fixture in our community.he's donated countless hours to our annual town fairs and events but has seen some health issues in recent years. Well, ive always known buster as a great race car mechanic but i just found out he was a cber big time way back. His handle was mopar-man! boy,did that start up some conversations ! He told me about other old timers in town that talked cb and now all those guys are getting back on or at the very least jaw'n bout tha ol'radio days. Anyway, what im pitchin here is for us all the pass it on when we can. 321

Very admirable 321. I have tried some with the younger crowd with cb and ham radio, with verrying degrees of success. It does seem though that some are taking too it out of fascination that this can be done without any WiFi network. Oooooo, it must be voodoo.

Hahahaha! Yep'r thats it! Thanks whitey, yeah just got my girlfriend's brother a radio and antenna for xmas. The hope is he'll get his group of buddies talkin cb, then his dad. A lot of thought went into this scheme....see, me and my girlfreind both have cb's in our cars and i have a base so her brother who is in his twenties and runs with a good bunch guys catches us talkin cb and havin fun. Next he is wantin to try it out and sayin how cool it would be to get his whole crew connected via cb ! So i got him one....we'll see how the dominos fall. Oh and his dad is an ol'seventies cber, matter o'fact, he gave me his old moonraker 4 ! Anyhow, i could see dad may be thinkin hes missin out so he might just jump back in the cb fun ! 321

Used it 99% of the time on vertical, even most dx talking was on vertical. They seem to be pretty sought after these days.

Yeah, this was neatly disassembled, tied, wrapped and put in his attic for 40+ years. I guess I'll clean it and stick it on a tower and rotor. Would have killed for one as a kid.

Ok check this out ! The seed has sprouted. My girlfriend's brother has taken to cb like a fish to a frypan ! Hes got that thing bolted into his truck i showed him how to tune the antenna and use a meter to check swr , he bought himself a road devil mic and bingo ! He's getting radio checks and talkin to his sister on their commutes. Even better, his buddy now wants one and yes, his dad is closely monitoring the fun...just a matter of time. 321

I bring my 9 year old grandson into my shack & let him listen & talk on HF whenever he is available & not plying outside when he visits our home. I also gave him a set of FRS/GMRS HT's to take home with him & he has a great time with them. He is just a kid & would rather play with our Bulldog in the yard or play with his Nerf Guns. I have had s few kids from the neighborhood over the years & even had the Scouts On The Air here once outside on my carport. Only one of those scouts ever became a Ham Operator but his step dad was one before becoming a SK & he also assisted with the scout event prior to his death. Kids today have far more things to grab their attention & most just are not attracted to Amateur or CB Radio.

Roger that ! The best we can do is just what you did. Exposure is the only way to possibly opening there eyes, hearts and imagination to radio, a great start is with grandpa! Now if you strap a walkie talkie to the bulldog....321

Both of my boys have grown up around me talking on the CB. They have used both base & mobile radios at times. Not sure if they will take to it or not yet (Teens with other things on their minds) Here's a pic of my younger son at work on a SB-220. That's MY beer so don't get any ideas He's taller than me now, but still works on electronics like his own side gig fixing wireless gaming controllers, so something stuck.

View AttachmentMy daughter used to take an interest in my radio stuff when she was younger, and I even let her have a turn at the mic. But eventually, my wife's continual mocking of my radio hobby rubbed off on her as well, and "radio night" now elicits a similar eye roll from my daughter as from my wife. Shame. She used to really like my Browning......

"Some" chicks just don't understand how sexy ham and cb radio is. Oh well, their loss.

Work harder to get them in. This was my birthday weekend and i had 4 of my 5 kids here to help me celebrate my 55th. My oldest son and middle daughter finally chose handles. After making fun of me, my oldest boy admitted to really liking my radio room and realized that technology had not missed citizen band radio, pointing out some of the newer radios and now wants a bearcat 980 ssb for the mobile. My youngest jump right on the radio and shout out my favorite locals and last night two women who work with me and my girlfriend also chose handles and are getting cbs. So, to flannelgirl and melonhead and terminator and voodoo,...catch you on the air! Breaker breaker. 321
