I can’t believe the gullible people that pay some snake oil salesman to peak and tune a President radio that verttually has no adjustments.
Unbelievable

It's the old cb mentality. Stretch them coils and watch the meter rise. When I hear it's been peaked and tuned I run the other way. I have tried many times to explain to a local about this and he never listens. He is one of those gullible people. Gets burnt and goes back for more.

By the time it is done, it is a total cost equal or greater than a decent ham radio, for something that is now a piece of crap.

Agreed. Just fixed a Cobra 29 a friend had that he uses when traveling on the highways. It keyed 6 watts but dropped to 2 watts once modulated. Plus they set him up with a Little Wil antenna that was so mis-tuned it took awhile to even get it tuned properly on 27.185.
When I ask why he didn't come to me first, he said he didn't want to bother me and besides how hard could it be to get a good setup? I was able at least to get the radio back to stock specs and it worked fine once the antenna was tuned correctly, but those Little Wils seems to be very narrow banded.

I can't figure out why Wilson antennas fetch so much money and have such a following. For a fraction of the price, I like the Firestik if I need a shortened antenna.

I agree. Cobra radios & Wilson antennas both used to have a good reputation, but nowadays not so much. I prefer a Ranger 2950 over a Cobra 29, especially if I plan on using SSB. Plus I get all the 'A' channels in the CB mode.
