Sandy, i find that life ebbs and flows. This summer was great for us cbers and now its very quiet. I believe thats a natural cycle of life in radio, just as summer vacation gives way to "back to school" activities. Skip came and went and as it died down so did the local interest in cb. All the banter about power mics, getting an antenna higher, recapping an old tuber or repairing a vintage mobile rig has all but disapeared. We dont have a big local cb network here but those of us who were guilty of flippin on the ol'cookie box every night to make a long distance contact or engaging in some tough talk about politics, nascar or the fact that we never hear any "foxy chicks" on the radio any more have now resigned to splitting wood or winterizing the pool. It is a truly natural digression for all who say "Breaker, breaker". Winter come'th

Quiet here too 321. I'd say it's because the weather has finally been beautiful for weeks on end. The temp and humidity is low enough to enjoy being outside, and that's what people around here are doing right now. But I know it WILL pick back up soon. Getting dark earlier everyday, and before long will be getting too cool.

Roger that YT,thats my observation as well. The weather here in the catskills has been amazing. Ive been able to get so much done around my place each day after work. A new roof, tons of yard work, machine repairs including my tractor and orchard equipment, and as of the last few weeks we've been pickin early apples! Its been nice and dry so im on firewood now too. With all of that I've not gotten back too my moon raker project and i only talk on the mobile rig to and from work, not much chatter early AM when i leave in the morning though, so i agree with your thoughts on it.

* sigh * I have a data migration program running... will be running for hours. With that.... I got the idea to go take a look at predictions for the upcoming solar cycle. Why...... why do I do things that depress me? I am no expert on these things... but according to what I see.... 1) the minimum activity "dip" is expected between Jul '19 and Sep '20 which says... "we are in it!" 2) the next one coming up is expected to be another dismal low activity one.... 3) the earliest that we can expect MAX activity is somewhere in 2023... 4 years away..... The only remotely good news is that forecasts show that, while this upcoming cycle will be low, it could be the LAST low one and the next one down the road will be bigger. We are talking 15 years or so down the road..... I'll be dead. I picked the wrong hobby!!!!

It is a truly natural digression for all who say "Breaker, breaker". Winter come'th Interesting perspective. Yeah, there are those who are only interested in CB radio, when the skip is running, and really don't want to chew the fat with locals. I'm pretty much the opposite. But in order to have decent local round tables, you have to have regular participants. Our group is also far more active in the winter months, when the absence of light and cold weather drive us indoors where we can warm our hands on a nice Tram or Browning. Summer time is filled with all sorts of competing activities, so sometimes radio takes a back seat.

I agree with that. Summertime took me away from the all day desire to try out new equipment and listen out for a new cber in the distance, but i got on every night to shoot skip. Now it seems folks are waiting for that time of year that you are talkin about. Right now we are all preparing to rake leaves ,service the oil burner and press some cider.

You never know....maybe on ssb 321 - when you are focusing on skip, are you running vertical or do you have something in a horizontal antenna? And..... 10-4 on that pressing some cider..... "press it past my lips"......

Just this weekend he finally got his dual band aluminum jPole up on a couple of sections of fence top rail.
Turned out perfectly so he now has a dual band base set up in his house.

321 - I can't believe it. I just can't believe it. Why am I always out in "left field" ?? My son Tim has been hanging around one of the clubs over in Baytown. A guy he met has offered him a Kenwood TS-520 ( 10m - 80m ) for $200. My daughter in law just said yes!

Seems that there are so many CB-related groups on Faceplant, that forums like this one suffer with less activity as a result. Shame as I much prefer the forum format as it lends itself better to serious discussions. I don't use any 'social' media websites at all. I don't mind the online forums as it reminds me of the BBS days of old.

Facebook is pretty much mostly older folks now.

I ran one for a few years back in the late 80's - early 90's, before the WWW took off.
